Located in Northern East Africa, Kenya borders Ethiopia to its north, Somalia and the Indian Ocean to its east, Tanzania to its south, Sudan and Uganda to its west and Lake Victoria in its southeast. The capital of Kenya is the Kenyan city of Nairobi, and Nairobi is also its only major city. Nairobi is 5,500 feet in the air.

In its border with the Indian Ocean, Kenya is a flat coastal plain, although as you travel farther west, it turns into highlands. Most Kenyans live in the highlands of the nation.

West of Nairobi is the Great Rift Valley, which is 4,000 miles deep into the Earth's crust. The valley is located in the highland desert, and is home to many lakes.
