Jace.

August 6.

Oh my God. She is here in my apartment! While I probably look and smell terrible from working morning and day shift at the radio station. What the hell made her want to come in here anyways? Goddamn it I bet she's into Ethan or something. That's fine I mean it's not like I know her or anything. She's just a girl who I've met once, who happens to be extremely attractive, and in my fucking living room. Alright, I'm fine, just need to play it cool.

I make my way to the kitchen to grab a beer, which I will definitely be needing. I haven't even said a word to her yet, fuck, I don't even know what to say. By the time I make it to the living room and sit in the arm chair I still haven't thought of what to say. I wish I didn't overthink all the time.

She looks to be in mid conversation with Ethan anyways. Well, mostly just Ethan rambling on while she nods. God, that dude can talk to anybody about anything. He stops mid-sentence when he gets a phone call. "Sorry, be right back," he says and then walks back to his bedroom.

Now it's just her and I, and I still have no clue what to fucking say. I decide to start with, "I like your top". Wow, nice one dude. She's not even wearing a cool top or anything. Just a loose white t-shirt, that she looked really good in might I add.

She looked at me a little startled and then blushed, "thank you".

"You're welcome," I say back to her, making sure to smile, and that was that.

We sit in silence for the next few minutes until Ethan comes back into the room and announces, "Sorry for the disappointment lady and Jace, but I must be on my way for I am about to go get laid". He then says a goodbye and is out the door.

Sage furrows her eyebrows and purses her lips before turning towards me, "he has a girlfriend?"

Uh oh, she was definitely into him. I knew it. "Uh kind of," I think for a second, "her names Sophia." She'll probably want to leave and never return now that she's stuck with me.

Her face brightens, "That's great! He's a nice guy. I mean, I don't really know him, but he's been nice to me so far." I don't know what to say to this, but she continued to look at me while smiling with her mouth closed. I noticed she did this a lot, smiling with her mouth while her eyes told a different story, an almost empty and lonely look to them.

I smile back at her, wishing I wasn't so nervous right now. I don't want her to leave so I blurt out the first thing I can think of, "Wanna play a video game or something?" Oh. My. God. Did my dumb ass really just ask this pretty girl to play a video game with me? I've been out of the game too long now.

Her response shocked me, "Sure! Do you have Mario Cart? I'm terrible at anything else."

I swear that response could've made me fall in love with her. I have to remind myself to just be her friend, I hear my brother's advice ringing in the back of my mind like an annoying alarm, 'be careful with who you give your heart to'. I wish he wasn't so right about that.

I get up to put the game in and hand her a controller, "here," her skin touching mine once again when she reached out to grab it, causing her to blush slightly.

"Thanks. Now let's get it on neighbor," she smirks as I sit on the couch beside her, careful not to get much closer than a friendly distance.

"Oh trust me," I smirk back at her, my competitive side suddenly coming out, "it's on."

....

After five games, she sure had my ass beat. I don't know whether to be pissed off that I lost or just extremely more attracted to her.

"Oh yeah!" she sticks her tongue out at me, "I won again!"

"Whatever, it was just luck." I cross my arms and fake a pout. This makes her laugh, and I swear that laugh gets me every time.

"You're just a sore loser." Then she smiles, a real smile with her teeth and with her eyes.

"You have a beautiful smile." I blurt out without thinking.

I can tell that caught her off guard by the way she stopped laughing and looked at me instead. She opened her mouth to say something right as the front door opened and a giddy Ethan walks right in.

"Woo! I had a great evening," he walks right into the kitchen without looking as us first. "How'd it go with Sage. Did you guys..." He stops when he sees that she's still here, "Oh 'sup. Didn't think you'd still be here."

She blushes then grabs her bag off of the floor, "Yeah, it's getting late and I should probably head out, by Ethan thanks for inviting me over," she turns to me, "and thank you Jace. I had a lovely evening with you." She gives a small smile and then she's gone before I can give a proper goodbye.

I go to my room after she leaves, saying a quick goodnight to Ethan. I don't know what my intentions are with her. I want to get to know her more, but she seems a little quiet and reserved at most times. My brothers advice is once again replaying in my head, and I should listen to it. I don't know if I can take another broken heart.
