I threw on my dark sweatshirt and jogged out my faded front door.
The first day of my senior year and I'm already going to be late. Fantastic.
The air smelled fresh, and the scent of rain lingered in the breeze. I presumed I'd grow used to the scent of rain, as I now lived in the gloomiest, rainiest place I could imagine. Forks, Washington.
I would be walking to school, since being a senior in high school didn't come with a load of money for a car.
I didn't mind walking, however. Though the grey sky wasn't the most breathtaking sight to endure on the way to school, I liked it that way. It was simple, comfortable.
Slightly dazed, but still walking at a reasonable pace, I saw something reflect out of the corner of my eye. I looked over to see a sleek black Volvo driving, undoubtedly faster than the speed limit, and more than just a few miles per hour.
Curious, I looked to see who sat behind the tinted windows of the car. I couldn't make out much, but I could vaguely see four, possibly five silhouettes of people. I quickly looked away before they could see me staring.

I compressed the black umbrella that I decided to bring in case it started raining on my journey to Forks High school, which I don't regret as that's precisely what it did. As I entered the main doors, I was greeted by a swarm of people in the hallways, laughing, talking, throwing things, the typical stuff teenagers do before a dreadful 7 hours of lectures and depression.
I felt a slight tap on my shoulder, choosing to ignore it, assuming somebody did it on accident. I assumed wrong because a couple of seconds after my lack of reaction, I heard a male voice yell, "Hey! Lady! Pay attention,". I looked behind me, slightly caught off guard, wanting to know what they want. "Hmm?" I mumbled, continuing to walk. The taller male quickly walked over to me.
"Hey, aren't you the new girl?" He asks. "Yeah. Just moved to Forks. How did you know I'm new? High schools get new kids all the time unnoticed." I asked. "Small town, small school, and people talk," he explained briefly. I nodded and continued walking. "Hey! Wait. I'm Jaden, what's your name?" He asked me. This guy is persistent. "Anathema." I reluctantly told him. I hate my name. (A/N if your name is Anathema, please don't be offended I actually love that name, the character is just edgy) it's so weird. There are so many lovely names; Lexi, Bella (a/n hee hee) Sydney, and my mother goes and chooses Anathema.
"Wow, I'm obsessed with that name. Nice to meet you, Anathema." He reached out to shake my hand. I shook it and gave him a quick smile. "Nice to meet you too, Jaden. I have to get going." I said to him, hurriedly. "Okay, Ana. I'll see you around".
Did he just give me a nickname?
"Wait!" He yelled. I turned, and he passed me a blue sticky note.
A phone number. Real subtle.
I waved and walked away quickly. Thank Lordy Jesus that's over.
