Sweetie Pie was down in the video shop, chewing her bubblegum and dancing in place to the music from the movie playing all over. She had just finished checking in all the movie returns and grabbed a pile and started to shelve them.
The bell over the door rang as yet another customer came in, soon she would had to go back behind the counter to assist whoever it was to rent their movie. A hand touched her shoulder and she swiftly turned. "Oh, good day sheriff. How can I help you?"
Rick Tavern was the sheriff for tens years running. His hair was starting to gray but were still a deep black. His hazel eyes seemed sad, and he raised his hand to scratch his head. As if he didn't know how to start.
"Do you need help with something?" She prompted. "A new movie or something older to help you remember the glory days of movie making?"
"No, not today dear." His voice strained with a visual effort. "Think you could come with me? And don't worry bout the shop for a bit Mabel can take care of for a bit."
She nodded slowly thinking this over. It was a bit unusual for Rick to come and ask her to leave the shop. But he was the sheriff she thought, he wouldn't come all this way and have me leave for some unimportant reason.
"Sure, just give me a minute to talk to Mabel."
"Sure you go do that, I'll be out in the pickup." He left on that note. Sweetie Pie went over to Mabel and asked her to fill in while she was out with Rick. At first when she stepped out she thought it was strange from him to be around in his truck, then it dawned on her.
Father must have called Rick to come get me over to where he needed me. Sweetie Pie thought to herself. Sliding into the front passenger seat she did her belt up and sat back as it pulled out of the drive. "Is there anything I can get you to drink or eat dear?"
"Umm, just a McFlurry from McDonalds. That is if it's not a problem" They both had a slight smile. She had her own McFlurry flavor, she ordered it so much.
"No, no problem." His voice strained even more.
As Rick drove on over to McDonalds and ordered her her treat, she looked longingly at the side mirror. Her hair was now a dark brownish black with red tints. It reached to her narrow waist and wall a living torture to manage.
Her eyes a hunted deep violet blue. Most people thought she wore contacts but the people here knew it was her true natural color. Her skin was a very pale milk so smooth even babies would be jealous, yet there was a daunting scar that marred her almost flawless skin.
The scar was split in two parts, but when it was made it was done with a single stroke. There was a jagged line etched into her cheek from the top of her left cheek bone to the top of her jaw. The other counterpart was on her left shoulder from the base of her neck to the backside of her shoulder.
That one was deeper and stayed an angry red. She wished her skin was normal, fore her scar tended to scare people. It wasn't something she could fix, no matter how much makeup she applied the scare was to deep and red to hide.
Yet she also had a handful of puncture marks, several millimeters thick, on both sides on the base of her neck.
She was drawn out of her thoughts when a hand moved in front her face and saw her treat dancing in front her face. She gladly grabbed it and stuck the spoon in. she looked at Rick and saw pity. He had saw her looking at the scar.
Most people had asked how she came to bear such a garish scar, but it was included in the many things that she refused to talk about.
Lifting the spoon she plopped it into her mouth and sighed in bliss. It was different then most McFlurrys. Hers contained lots of candy bits, berries but not strawberries. More blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. There were also cheesecake bits stuck in hidden places.
