Remus ran down the corridor through the middle of the train. He ran from three fourth year Ravenclaws who had been teasing him for a half an hour about all his scars. He switched cars, closed the door, and ran into a random compartment, immediately casting a concealment charm.

"Hello?" Asked an annoyed voice from behind him.

Remus whipped around and saw three boys.

One had jet black hair and hazel eyes. His skin was not super tan, but pretty tan considering the cloudy summer England had been having.

Another one had mousy brown hair and electric, bright blue eyes. He was not pale, but not quite tan. Remus guessed he could be considered cute, but Remus couldn't see it.

The last one was practically their opposite. He sat by the window and stared at the countryside. He wore tight ripped black jeans, a black leather jacket, and a plain white shirt. His shoulder-length charcoal black hair fell into his light, stormy grey eyes. He was the one had spoken, although he hadn't turned.

The grey-eyed boy turned now, and Remus could see something in his eyes, something like angst or loneliness. Remus realized everyone was staring at him.

"Hi. My name is Remus Lupin."

"What are you doing in our compartment?" Spat the grey-eyed boy.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Remus said, his voice dripping with sarcastic sympathy, "I didn't know you owned this compartment. For your information, I was running from bullies, telling me I SHOULD DIE. Maybe I'm better off out there!"

The boy looked a little guilty. The other boy with hazel eyes said, "I'm sorry about Sirius. Remus it was, right? I'm James. This is Sirius," he gestured to the grey-eyed boy, "and Peter." Then he gestured to the short, mousy boy.

Remus shook James's hand, then Peter's, but when he extended his hand out to the grey-eyed boy he refused to shake it. Instead he quickly stood and embraced the taller boy quickly before sitting back down and blushing a little.

"Sorry I was a bit rude. It's a reflex reaction."

Remus nodded.

— HALF AN HOUR LATER —

All four of the boys quickly became friends. Now Sirius had turned away from the window and had slung his legs over Remus's lap. James had removed his shoes and shoved his feet in everyone's faces before settling his feet on the table next to the window, trapping Peter against it.

Remus had Accio'd his trunk from the compartment it had been in and now it was carelessly thrown on top of everyone else's trunks. Candy wrappers were strewn about, and Remus was stealing everyone's chocolate.

James had bought a pack Bernie Botts Every Flavour Beans, and right now they were passing them around and each having one at a time, sharing the flavour they got.

Sirius went first, and got pumpkin juice. He passed the box to Remus.

Remus closed his eyes, drove his hand in and pulled one out, sticking it in his mouth before opening his eyes. He sighed in delight as he got one of a chocolatey-flavour. Sirius smiled slightly at this sound of pure contentment made by Remus.

They played for about fifteen minutes before getting bored. They pulled down the curtain on the window of their compartment door and all changed in the compartment.

James and Peter kept glancing at Sirius self-consciously, because he had right away come out to them as openly gay, telling them that was why his parents hated him so much that they were flipping off the train as it had set off.

Remus, however, didn't know yet, although a few times when the other boys had glanced at Sirius they had caught him secretly staring at Remus's chest while he changed.

Soon, they arrived at the castle. They shared a boat, managing to not to let any of them fall in.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

"GRYFFINDOR!"

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Remus Lupin watched as his new friends were all put into the same house. He clapped for them all and got ready for when his name was called.

"Lupin, Remus!"

He stepped up to the platform and sat down. McGonagall placed the hat on his head and all that went through his mind was Gryffindor, Gryffindor, Gryffindor, Gryffindor.

But the hat didn't listen.

"SLYTHERIN!"

He was incoherent as he walked towards the cheering table. His robes, which had previously just been the Hogwarts crest with a black tie, changed slowly to the Slytherin colors. It was official.

Several kids from the other houses booed. That was probably exactly when he realized just why Slytherins didn't get along well with the other houses. He could perfectly imagine, coming here as a muggleborn, not knowing much about the magical world yet, and the first interaction you have is getting booed at by three-quarters of the school population. Even if these people turned out to be nice, that is not something you can easily just forgive and forget.

When he regained control over himself, he made eye contact with his friends across the hall.

James glared at him. It was obvious he was mad at Remus, and it made him angry. He didn't choose Slytherin!

Peter looked away quickly, down at the table. Although they had only known each other for a few hours, Peter really liked Remus, but he also had looked up to James since they met.

Sirius looked right into his eyes and smiled at him, not angry or anything. Remus was still the same person he'd always been to Sirius, just the bullied kid who ran into their compartment halfway through the train ride.

None of them had any idea, at the time, what was in store for them....
