Some part of him wished Kigu was real so he could punch them.

That morning, Tamotsu had forgotten his meds, and throughout the entire hour, Kigu'd been rambling on and on about whatever the hell managed to cross their mind. It was getting impossible for Tamotsu to think.

He squeezed his eyes shut, which did absolute jackshit, and tried massaging his temples to ease off the migraine that was quickly forming. Kigu clearly didn't care whether or not their own body had its shit together.

'Please. Shut up,' Tamotsu mouthed, angry and tired.

Fuck you, Tammy! This is more important than some stupid test.

'I care about my future-'

Our future, Tammy! I'm part of you, too.

'Do you think I care?'

Without me, we'd be nothing. Lone Wolf who? Oh, no one because Tammy decided he didn't need me anymore!

'Please just let me finish my test.'

No!

He sighed as Kigu continued, trying to focus on the markings on the page he'd been given. He couldn't make out the shapes of them, like they were the letters of another language. But no, there was no mistaking it, that was Sinatan in front of him. He was just suddenly illiterate.

Giving up, he leaned back a bit and stared out the window. It wasn't the best sight, but it was better than that stupid test. And of course, now that he'd stopped trying on the test, Kigu had shut up.

There was no use continuing the test, Kigu would just keep talking. As annoyed as he was, Tamotsu was thankful for the silence.

As he watched the campus from his window, he took mental notes of people he saw walking below. It was something he did often, an exercise to keep Kigu from taking most of his energy. Most everyone seemed normal, a scattered few wearing bright, colorful clothes and numerous accessories, and a couple goths here and there.

Then his eye caught something strange.

There was a boy standing on the grass in front of the school building, staring up at it. His hair was bright white, and in the sun, it seemed like pure light.

Strange, Tamotsu thought. He almost looks like-

His heart dropped.

The boy didn't look like anyone.

He was Ryuu.

Tamotsu jumped up from his desk and ran out of the classroom, ignoring his teacher's and classmates' protests. He couldn't hear them. That was his brother out there.

He found me.

He made it down the stairs, through the lobby and out the door, almost smiling.

I'm going to see him again.

But as he blinked, his eyes adjusting to the light, he couldn't find him.

Just like that, Ryuu disappeared, and with him went any form of positive emotion, leaving a gaping, crushing emptiness in Tamotsu's chest.

He remembered seeing Ryuu at the Agency, only glimpses. He wasn't allowed near him, even though he was his brother. He was special, useful. Tamotsu was not. Maiko had feared that if Tamotsu was around Ryuu too much, he's lose his usefulness, catch whatever horridness Tamotsu was diseased with.

Still, the two of them found ways to meet.

"Tamotsu-" A hand grabbed his wrist.

Who was that? A guard? One of the scientists? Hitoshi? Fear saturated Tamotsu's thoughts and he whirled around in a panic, twisting his attacker's hand with his mind.

His attacker yelped in pain, dropping Tamotsu's hand and staggering off. At first, he felt proud -

and then he realized where he was.

Makoto, one of Tamotsu's classmates, was sitting on the ground, holding his injured hand. His eyes were wide, flicking fearfully between his hand and Tamotsu.

"M- Makoto, I'm sorry-" Tamotsu stepped towards him, but he squirmed away, stuttering a "Stay back!" as best he could through the pain.

Tamotsu had forgotten how much it hurt to be feared.

And now, a crowd had gathered around them, throwing anxious thoughts in the air that hovered like a cloud over them all. Tamotsu was the only one who could feel it, he was sure. The air felt pressurized, closing in on him like walls of gelatin. He couldn't move. If he didn't move, he was surely going to die.

He had to leave. He had to.

So he ran, pushing through the crowd and running as far as he could away from the school and into Downtown, a sprawling metropolis of metal and concrete rising like gods and mountains out of the dirty, rumbling streets.

Yasu's not going to be happy about this, Kigu chided. Tamotsu ignored him.
