Abel, only a few months old, was held in his father's embrace. Big adorable eyes of his locked onto Jax's face as his chubby arms reaching out. Small gentle fingers toying with biker's beard.
Looking at his firstborn son, Jax wore a bright grin. The day of Abel's birth was the happiest day of Jax's life. Since then, a feeling of serenity would overwhelm biker's entire being whenever he was around Abel. Despite all the problems that might have bothered Jax, Abel never failed to brighten up the mood.
Everything was perfect, until one day Jax had found Wendy sprawled on the living room floor. The belt tied around the upper part of her arm, a needle on the table and Abel screaming loudly in the background. She was unconscious and very pale as if she was dead.
Jax got down on the floor, taking Wendy in his arms, calling out her name and trying to wake her up. It took him a while to shake Wendy out of the condition she was in.
Seeing her husband's face, she burst into tears. Her entire body shaking in Jax's arms due to the drugs she injected in her body not long ago. "I'm so sorry, baby.", Wendy uttered through tears. Her limbs were weak as she tried covering her face in shame.
Jax was furious but also worried. He did care about her and knowing that she had returned to her old habits awakened conflicted feelings inside Jax. Especially because she seemed to be done with drugs and, more importantly because she is a mother that is putting her son in danger by her recklessness.
"I was weak and stupid. But, I promise you, Jax, I'm done with it.", she kept justifying herself.
Jax was not so sure that she was done. However, she is the mother of his son and Jax gave her yet another chance to prove herself. He was keeping an open eye. Wendy then felt 'weak and stupid' just a week later. He gave her another chance. And another one. And another one. Until there were no reasons to try any longer.
Even Gemma realized what was happening and was urging Jax to do something about it. Wendy was spending the most time with Abel which was putting him in constant danger. Once she even forgot where she had left Abel. Fortunately, he was not far. She had left him on the back seat of her car. That was the final straw.
"It is for the best.", was the last thing that Jax had said to Wendy before she was off to the rehab.
Jax was left alone with Abel since his mother cared not. Wendy, just as any typical drug addict, cared only for the shots rather than her family. If she was ready to give it all up, then what makes her worthy of staying in their lives any longer?
"No worries, Abel. You are not alone. Your old man is here."
Jax glanced over at the table where the divorce papers were.
"Nothing bad will ever happen to you. I'm gonna make sure of that." Jax planted a soft kiss on Abel's little head, who in return gifted his father with the most adorable smile in the world.
