When ever Alice would go into town there was a big and thin cat that would always follow Alice all around town wherever she went. To Alice this cat would talk to her he would vanish when the locals would ask her to whom she was talking to. Chester was what he went by or so would Alice say. Chester would be Alice's guardian though out her life in her days in wonderland. This may give u the reason why Chester would always vanish in the stories u may have heard.
