Attiga, Virginia, is known for two things. One, you can get just about anything fried and it always tastes better when you eat it on the pier. Two— the dark month. In August of 2006, 31 kids went missing without a trace. Each day, one child was taken in the night. No sign of forced entry, no struggle, no nothing.
I, Elloise Mantukett, am one of those children.
The only problem, I don't remember any of it. I have a life of memories that people tell me never existed. A house I never lived in. A school I never attended. Parents that aren't real, a boyfriend that wasn't real either
Things get real messy when that boyfriend that never existed shows up too. A boy that was also taken during the dark month. He has the same memories as I do, the memories that aren't real. The memories of me that we never shared.
Finding out the truth is hard when everybody is lying to you.
