I start to walk faster, my eyes snapping from one side of the hallway to the other. The lights flicker above me similar to the way they do in horror movies. If I wasn't concerned for my own physical health from the very beginning, I most certainly am now as I feel my heart rate accelerating, clinging to the straps that hang from my shoulders as if they're my only anchor to humanity. I can't help but keep my eyes on the floor, watching as my torn Converse appear and disappear with every step I take. A soft gasp from the girl standing at her locker beside me serves as a warning before I'm inevitably pushed to the cold floor tiles.
Ever since middle school, I've been a social outcast. It started with lingering stares, whispers throughout the noisy hallways, and maybe even a few shoves if I was lucky. Before I knew it, those stares turned into glares, the whispers turned into direct insults, and the shoves turned into punches. Luckily for me, though, while other people had to juggle their grades and social life at the same time, only one of those things existed for me. It quickly became a habit to avoid the infamous school bullies, go through alleyways instead of main streets on my way to school, and even hide in the football field's bathroom during lunch.
Though, no matter how much these precautions help, I think it's safe to say that it really does limit my freedom and leave me paranoid ninety-nine percent of the time. I guess it's worth it, though, just to save me from coming home to see my mom looking at the black and blue bruises littered across my pale skin with horror.
"Hey, Lewis!" I hear from behind me, followed by the telltale whispers as his shoes click against the floor tiles. I sit up with a sigh, watching as my knuckles lose their color from where they lay on the floor. I turn to face him, only to see his shoe hurling towards me.
Then, all I see
is black.

Hello, beautiful reader! First off, I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to read this! Secondly, this will be the first story I will be OFFICIALLY posting and hopefully finishing! I hope my writing doesn't make you cringe, seeing as I'm not the best writer... but enough of that! Thirdly, I'm not exactly sure what my updating schedule will be like, but please look forward to future updates!
Lastly, I really hope you enjoy reading Almost Like Fate and fall in love with the characters as much as I did while creating them!
Much love,
Dat_Blue_Skittle
