Daniel finds himself in a situation that's become all too routine as of lately. He and Justin sit on the picnic bench behind the cafeteria and talk about anything and everything almost every lunch period. If he's completely honest, it would be strange just sitting on the opposite side than they usually do.
"Dan, do you believe in fate?" Justin's brown eyes nearly sparkle with anticipation after asking the sudden question, his gaze flickering from the straw in Daniel's mouth--now void of the milk he had been drinking only seconds before--to the busy fingers tapping mercilessly on the cracked phone screen.
Daniel finally takes the straw out of his mouth and sets his phone down. He squints, the sun shining through the leaves of the tree behind his best friend, leaving sun spots dancing around his vision as an amused expression settles on Justin's pale face.
The brunet, now gazing at the clouds, shrugs with a happy sigh as chocolate brown locks fall into his eyes. "Do you ever just think about how and why things happen the way they do?"
Daniel laughs softly before shaking his head, Justin shrugging his shoulders once again before the bell rings.

"Hey, Daniel! Come sit next to me!" Amelia chirps from the back of the class, a few heads turning to look at Daniel. He sighs to himself, anxiety immediately pooling at the bottom of his stomach.
Her face is caked with too much makeup, strawberry blonde hair curled professionally, and an extremely revealing crop-top matched with black jeans sticking tightly to her skin, which Daniel can only assume isn't too comfortable. A manicured hand is laying on her desk, the other twirling a lock of hair around her finger. A smirk spreads across her face as he starts walking towards her. He sits in the open desk next to her, his brain full of regret as her hand instantly finds his thigh.
The bell rings again, her hand traveling to places it doesn't belong, causing a frown to crawl across his lips as photography class starts.

Daniel throws the heavy backpack that's been hanging from his slumped shoulders all day into the corner of his room as he falls backward onto his bed with a sigh. His phone vibrates for the millionth time in the past hour, the bright screen illuminating his dark room with a faint blue hue. He sighs again before bringing the screen to his face, deciding to go through the avalanche of text messages. He squints his eyes, reading through the message previews.
(Incoming Message) Justin:

(Incoming Message) Amelia:

Daniel sighs, tossing his phone aside in frustration.
"I need a restart button," he mumbles before pulling the covers over himself.

Hello, beautiful reader! So, if you've read this chapter before, you may notice that I have changed the POV in this chapter as well. I wanted to keep the narration somewhat consistent in order to avoid confusion, but the events that take place are still the same. If you're a new reader, welcome! I hope you enjoyed this chapter of Almost Like Fate and don't get too confused before I'm able to upload the rewritten version of the next chapter. That's all!
Much love,
