The next morning I was awoken by my mom walking into my bedroom and shaking me awake. She just pointed at Kris and gave me an angry look. Looks like I was at that bridge. She motioned me to step into the hall.
"Avery would you like to explain what happened last night?" She crossed her arms angrily.
"Kris broke up with her girlfriend then went to a party and drank a little too much so she called me to go pick her up and I didn't want her parents to think it was my fault she was like that so I just brought her here." My mom rubbed her eyes like she was thinking.
"Did you at least tell her parents she was here?" She had a very good point.
"No I forgot." My mom gave me an irritated look but then said,
"I'm just glad she's safe and that you are too. Just tell her parents she's here and I'll make something for you guys to eat." I just nodded and got back into bed. I grabbed my phone from my night stand and saw the text from Sara. She had sent it at 9:35. It was now 10:56. It read
Ave just got this what happened? You good?
I text her back and said
All good. No need to worry. She hurled in my room. She's still passed out. All in all it could have been worse.
Within a few seconds Sara had read the text and was typing.
Okay well I have to get bak to the debate thingy. Its torture. Wish you were here. Ill ttyl. Ily
I just sent back a kissy face emoji and set my phone down. I looked over at Kris who was still asleep. I poked her cheek trying to wake her up, but all I got was an agitated "Fuck off" I just laughed. Remembering her parents I grabbed my phone and texted her mom that she had spent the night at my house. I poked Kris' face again. This time she actually woke up. She rolled over and looked at me.
"Morning sunshine." I smiled.
"What time is it?" She asked rubbing her eyes.
"About 11. I texted your mom and told her you were here by the way." She just nodded.
"What happened last night?" She asked pulling the cover up over her.
"You called me asking for a ride. Then when you didn't answer your phone I went looking for you and found you in bed with some random guy. Then we came back here and you puked a bit then passed out." She put her hands over her face and just said
"Oh godddd."
"Kris what were you thinking? Going out alone like that. If that guy had been drunk or whatever he could have raped you."
"I thought I was okay with the break up but then it just hit me that she's not going to be in my life every day and it just started to hurt so bad. So when Ana asked if I wanted to go to a party I said yes." I rolled my eyes.
"Seriously Ana is bad news. Plus she's an idiot. You should have just called me. We could have just chilled here and eaten ice cream or whatever it is straight girls do when they're heartbroken." She just laughed a little bit and nodded. But I could see the tears welling up in her eyes.
"I just, I really did love her Ave. So much. And I know I'm better off without her but that doesn't stop it from hurting." I didn't know what to say. I knew exactly how she felt.
"I'm sorry Kris." I pulled her in for a hug and we just laid there.
"But you're going to find someone who treats you right and gives you exactly what you deserve.
"Thank you Ave. You really are my best friend."

After we ate and I got kris cleaned up a bit I drove her over to her house. She was still hungover but she managed to make it to her house without getting sick in my car. She had her knees pulled up to her chest and her head was in her hand. As I pulled up to her house I saw a familiar white jeep outside of her house. I heard Kris groan out loud in the passengers seat of my car.
"I can keep going." I said slowing down just a tiny bit
"No I want to go home." She moaned.
"Okay."
I drove past Kris' house and made a turn around. Kris just moaned a bit more as I pulled in behind Mack. Mack got out of her car and stood by the door. I got off my own car and walked around to Kris' side to help her out. When she looked up at me her blue green eyes were watering just a bit.
"I don't want to see her Ave." I looked up from her to look at Mack who was glaring at me while standing next to her own car.
"Just stay here." I said
"What're you going to do?" She asked me as I started walking.
"I just want to talk." I said putting my hands in the air as if to surrender. As I walked over to Mack she had this look on her face. As I looked at her I could tell she had been crying but the face she was making told me she was still angry. Whether that anger was directed at me I don't know, but I walked over to her anyways.
"Why are you here mack?" I asked with a voice that sounded a little too empathetic.
"I want to talk to her." She said it without any trace of sarcasm or resentment.
"Thats not a good idea. Not right now. She needs more time." I said as I turned around to walk back to kris.
"Fine, you can go fuck her for all I care." She said but it came out hurt. She sounded more angry with herself than with me. I couldn't help myself. I turned around and said,
"You know Mack, I never wanted to take her away from you. I wanted her to be happy, and you made her happy. If you had just treated her right, had taken care of her, loved her the way she deserves to be loved, you and I wouldn't have had a problem. I would have been a really good friend to you and her both. I just thought you should know."
With that I turned my back and walked to Kris. I heard Mack slam her door and drive off. Everything I said was true. I meant every word. But words won't change what happened. Kris was out of the car already standing by the door when I got back.
"What happened?" She asked, concern heavy in her voice.
"I told her the truth." I said running my fingers through my hair.
"Come on let's get inside already." With that Kris just nodded and followed me inside.
