Summer
Slightly colder evening than usual
I sit on the stairs of my apartment complex outside.
I look over and see a monarch butterfly, gently flapping it's small wings around over my head.
I hold my index finger out, curious to see if it would land on it.
It gently landed on my finger, leaving me in awe for a couple seconds.
"Maybe life isn't too bad"
I momentarily felt true happiness.
But alas, happiness doesn't last forever.
The butterfly had begun to flap its wings and fly away.
I ran inside my apartment and told my mother of the event that had just occurred.
She stopped sweeping and looked at me with a soft smile and said
"Mi Mariposita."
