"Get 'em Pipe!"

"Knock him out!"

"Cmon, I've got a fifty on you!"

With a final punch to the guys' gut, he fell over and didn't get back up. I won. Again. It wasn't the first time I had fought this guy, and he was an easy K.O. This being my twenty-sixth fight, I knew majority of the people who came to this alley.

"Good job, Pipes." Cole handed me a thousand and patted me on the back. I smiled in return, I don't know what I'd do without this guy. He was my manager, a chubby Italian man with no hair, but a big heart. I honestly don't know why he got into street fighting..

"Thanks Coleslaw, I'll see you on Sunday." I made my leave, waving to some of the regulars. I tucked the loose strands of my brown hair back as best I could, and made my way back to the orphanage. I hated walking these streets at night, since nobody else really walked around here at night. It was less than a mile away, so I wasn't one to complain. I tucked my hands into the pockets of my worn sweatpants, quickening my pace. It was later than I usually finished, around 10pm. Passing by the small alleyway closest to the home, I heard grunts and screams. What the hell is going on in there? I peeked around the building, seeing a buff man cornering a woman. I knew it was bad news, but I couldn't let him do this.

"Hey!" I yelled, hearing my voice echo. "What do you think you're doing?!" The man slowly turned around, trying to mask the smirk on his face when he saw me. Yikes. I'm not the most menacing person, am I?

"What's your name, sweetie?" he said with humor.

"Leave her alone." I said, gritting my teeth.

"Yeah? What're you gonna do if I don't?"

So I ran in and attacked. I went straight for his nose, making sure to dislocate it. It was easy to dodge with the agility I had, and his muscular build was nothing compared to my slim, fit one. He got a few hits in, but he ended up unconscious after a solid kick to his head. Taking jiu jitsu since I was seven really paid off sometimes.

The woman was still as she huddled herself in the corner. She didn't look scared, or surprised. In her hazel eyes, I saw relief. She had her blonde hair in a messy ponytail, and her dress was dirty from being on the ground. She was a short lady, who looked like what a mom would.

"T-t-thank you. I'm Lucy." she said, while letting out a sigh.

"I couldn't leave you there, now could I? And I'm Piper." I said, chuckling while trying to regain my breath.

"Y-you can leave n-" She said, thinking I would leave her alone.

"Funny. You think I'd leave you here so you could wait for him to wake up?"

"But what else can you do? I can't ditch him in the middle of an alley!"

"You can, and you will. Never let a man beat you up and come back for more. You're done with him. Did you come in a car?" I asked, trying to change the subject before my flashbacks started.

"Yeah.." she said, seeing there was no point in arguing. She led me to it, slipping the keys out of the mans pocket. "Where do you live? I'll drop you off, your parents must be worried that you're out so late!" She said, coming to a realization as she saw the time light up on the dash.

"Uh," I scratched at my nose, "just drop me off up the road." She looked at me and raised an eyebrow. Crap. She won't buy it. "It's where I live, I'm not lying." And I wasn't.

"First of all, this isn't even a residential area," she said pointedly, "second of all, you will tell me your address."

I sighed and gave in as soon as we approached the orphanage. I pointed to it and her mouth formed in an o shape. She stopped the car and got out, motioning for me to do the same.

"What're you doing? I can walk myself inside." I said, confused. She just walked on, with almost no evidence that she had heard me. When I had gotten in, she was talking to Daniella, the main person in charge.

"-do the paperwork." was all I got to hear out of Dani's mouth, and they both walked into her office. I knew what was going on by now, and I sat myself down on a chair close to the room. After about ten minutes, Lucy emerged from the room with Dani, both of them with beams on their face. I guess Dani was happy for me because I'd been here for ten years, since I was seven.

"You practically saved my life, it's the least I could do to give you a home." and Lucy pulled me into a hug.

"Thank you." I whispered into her shoulder. I haven't had a real family since I was four, when my mom filed for divorce. My mom and I lived in a cheap apartment, my dad refusing to send child support. And one day, my dad found us. He hit her, and being seven, I didn't want to see my mom getting hurt, so I stood up for her. But he just hit me harder. Six days later, my mom overdosed. Her note said "Piper, I love you. But it's for the best. Your dad won't find you at the orphanage. I promise.".

I know that Lucy will take care of me, and I'll make sure to take care of her.

(P.S.// Pictured is Piper, and the song is dedicated from Lucy to her☺️)
