-August 28th
I woke up alone in a hospital room. I looked down and saw the multiple IVs in my arm, along with some bandages. In the chair to the left of me was my duffel bag and my clothes.
"I see you're awake," a lady said walking into the room and startling me. "Oh, sorry dear. I didn't mean to scare you."
"You're fine," I mumbled.
"How are you feeling?" she asked, grabbing a bag and replacing it with another.
"Okay, I guess. What happened? I can't remember anything other than bits of an ambulance ride."
"You got shot in the stomach. You're lucky, though. An inch to either side could have killed you or left you paralyzed." She looked over at me and smiled. "Everybody that was in here left about thirty minutes ago to go get food. Your dad and some friends. It was so crowded in here I could barely move."
I smiled, now knowing that I did in fact have people that worried.
"You're Sheriff William’s daughter, aren't you?"
"Yeah."
"Alexa?"
I looked over and saw all of my friends standing in the door way. With my dad, the girls, boys, and Corbyn's family, it was definitely a crowded room.
"Let me change this bandage and then I'll leave you guys alone for a little while." She moved the gown and pulled off a bandage on my stomach that was covering stitches. She applied some gel and a new bandage before grabbing what she needed and leaving.
"I was so worried," Bailey finally said, making the first move to hug me. All of the others followed in suit.
"What happened?" Daniel asked, clearly worried. He had what looked like tear stains on his shirt, and Brent had the same on his.
"I don't know."
"It's okay, Lexa," Dad said. "They found the guy who did it."
Jordan, and Ashley looked over at him with confusion. Corbyn just smiled. "Him?" Ashley asked.
"All of them, actually. They were on the FBI's most wanted list for hit men and drug cartels. Four men and one woman. It's hard to look normal in a place like Palmview, they stood out like a needle in a haystack."
"Dad, I don't think that that's how that phrase is used."
"A needle in a haystack stands out." He winked and made everyone laugh.
"When do you get out?" Corbyn asked, and for the first time actually processed that he wasn't wearing his hood.
"Tomorrow," the nurse said, walking back in, holding up a stack of papers. She handed them to dad before saying, "These just need to be filled out so that we can get her out of here and so that we can go ahead and fill her prescription."
"Okay, thank you."
"Only one person can stay in here tonight," she informed everybody. "I let two slide last time but I can't again."
"Corbyn can stay," Megan piped in. "He hasn't yet."
"That's fine with me," Bailey said, and everybody else agreed.
My eyes landed on dad. "I don't see why not," he gave in, smiling.

Everyone had left and me and Corbyn remained in the room. I had moved over and he laid on my bed with me, playing with my hair.
"I'm so sorry," he said. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen."
"I know you didn't Corbyn. It's okay."
"It is tho-"
"Corbyn," I stopped him. "It isn't your fault."
He sighed and I moved closer to him and he wrapped his arm around me.
"Sing to me. Please?"
Corbyn looked at me and smiled. "Wise men say, only fools rush in. But I can't help falling in love with you," he sang. Corbyn looked down at me and smiled before leaning down and kissing my lips. "I've wanted to do that for a while."
I smiled at him and reconnected our lips. "Keep singing," I finally said, breaking up apart.
Corbyn kissed my head and continued to sing. "Like a river flows surely to the sea..."
