Jacob and I were sitting in the office sorting through some files when Sofie walked in.

"Have you guys seen any news reports today?" She asked

"No why?" I asked

She gave us a sympathetic look before switching on the TV

"A 28-year-old female, Melisa Nettleton, living in Manhattan, New York, was reported missing by her secretary just yesterday. Police reported her missing and began searches. Security cams in a gas station saw her picking up sandwiches and water. She seems to be traveling with two guys in their late 40s in a black Sudan. If anyone has information on this woman or the two males accompanying her, please contact New York Police."

Sofie turned off the TV. "I'm really sorry guys."

Jacob grabbed his phone and rushed out of our office. The two of us have been working for the FBI out of Washington for about 3 years now. Melisa moved to New York to pursuit her dream of becoming a fashion designer.

"At what point can we take on this case?" I asked

"No. This is too personal. If we do end up getting this case, you guys won't be working on it. Just stay focused on this one."

Jacob and I are working on an international drug bust, but neither of us are going to be very useful now that Melisa is missing.

My phone rang. Angela.

"I've got to take this." I said walking out. Sofie nodded.

"Jackson, I when do you get off tonight?" Angela asked

"I'll be home in about an hour why?"

"Just reminding you to pick me up."

"Okay. I love you."

"Love you too."

I hung up.

She doesn't know. She seemed really happy and I don't want to ruin that right now. I'll tell her tonight.

When I got back into our office Jacob was sitting at his desk with his eyes his closed.

"Hey, I've gotta go." I said grabbing my things.

"Okay."

"Charlie and Teddy are coming over for dinner tonight around 6. Why don't you come to?"

"Okay."

I would have stayed but I knew he would want space. This is how he works. He was like this for a while after she left. I'll make sure we get this case.
