It was a cold winters morning and Jack was lying in his bed. Sheets pulled all the way to his chin. His head buried into his soft goose feather pillow. He was awake. Thinking about what had happened during the night. He remembered his mother and father arguing about money. He knows it was about money because his father has lost his job, drinking was the cause. He was too scared to get out of bed to find out who had left the house last night. He thinks it could have been his mother. The door was swung close with a load bang as the person left. He does not want his mother to leave, he does not want to be left with his drinking father. Who is probably drunk now after the fight with his mother. "Jack", he heard the faint sound of his little sister calling him from her room. "Jack are you awake?" she asked him. Her voice braking with fear and worry. "Yes Liz, I am awake", Jack said, trying to sound calm and unaware of what happened. He does not want his little sister to be afraid. She just turned 5 a week ago. It is not right for a child of such age to worry about such things he though. Although he himself is only 15 years old. "Jack can I come and lie with you?", again the faint and frightened voice coming from the other side of the wall. As the older brother. The first thought in his mind is to protect his little sister. "Of course Liz, but come quietly. I don't want Mum and Dad knowing we are awake." He knows only one of them is in the house. He is just trying to calm his sister with his words. As he lie in bed he can hear the creaking sound of his sister's bedroom door. She tip toes to his room, trying to be as quite as a mouse. The old wooden floor cracking even under her light weight. The few seconds from her room to his room feels like an eternity. Every crack from the floor making him worried, did my dad hear that, he would think to himself. In the quite winter morning when there are no bird songs or a lot of car noises, everything sounds so much louder. Finally his door is opening. The small figure lurking through the opening of the heavy wooden door. As she steps into the light on her little toes he can see her white blond hair. A mess after sleeping-if you can call it sleeping. Probably such a mess from rolling around all night. Poor girl he thought to himself. Trying to calm himself down. As she closed the door as softly as she could, there was a loud screech from the iron hinges. The sound echoing through the house. They both look at each other with worry in their eyes. Did someone hear them? "Jack, Liz" a voice shouted from the living room...
Martha is a beautiful woman. Long dark hair, dark complexion, beautiful face with piercing brown eyes and long legs. She was not born in the city like her husband Dan. She was born in the country. The daughter of a farmer. Growing up on the farm made her a strong woman. Independent, well behaved and loving any animal and person. Dan is also a handsome man. Tall bulk blond man with hard cheek bones. Eyes as blue as the ocean. He was born in the city. As a young man he was a real trouble maker. Both his parents worked in the city, giving him time to misbehave with his friends. Some of his traits from his teenage and young adult did not go away. He is still a heavy drinker. He met Martha at a party. A friend of a friend of a friend kind of situation. As a party animal he created lots of attention at the party. These acts caught the eye of Martha. She looked on him with desire. She knew she is beautiful, and she knew she would also catch his eye if she talked with him. Although Martha only saw him for how he looked, and not for the kind of man he is she approached him at the party. He was drunk of course, but for the brief conversation they had, her beauty almost rendered him sober. It was a short introduction conversation with an exchange of numbers. Him being a man with alcohol in his blood hoped for more, but she is a woman with pride and did not let it lead to a one-night stand. After a few weeks they went on dates, it all went well. They ended up getting married and having 2 beautiful children named Jack and Liz. She hopped the drinking would come to an end after the birth of Jack. Hope can sometimes be an empty word. After the birth of Liz, she told him the drinking should be toned down or she will leave with the children. She does not want a broken family, so Dan knew that these were just some empty words. Until last night...
