After much battling and handling strong opponents while holding the newly-formed title of first female District Champion, it is no surprise that the strong beyblader of the mythical Pixolon would need a rest to rejuvenate her body, especially when it's her week. Sitting up in her bed while sipping some soup and watching the popular show How Not to Be a Loser, Maya MacArthur found nothing but great relaxation and little boredom for being temporarily detained from the sport she loved. She sighed, thinking about the friends she made in Piyorka Town and wondered about their well-being. She was very well aware of the impression she left on them, especially proving that girls can beyblade.
She then heard two knocks on the door and looked over, calling out, "Who is it?"
"It's your bro," Eli responded with great confidence. The phrase still sounded foreign to both of them but they had a seemingly amicable relationship. Maya allowed him in and Eli came in, bringing with him some familiar guests. Her mauve eyes glowed when she saw Carl and Jaime walking in with big smiles.
"Hey there, Maya," Jaime cheered, giggling nervously. He blushed slightly and cornered himself by Carl's shoulder. Carl, being braver than he was before, spoke to Maya, "We've missed you today."
He realized his words and bit his tongue subtly. Maya laughed, "I missed seeing you guys as well. Hey, where's Ace?"
"He had to talk to Mr. Herman," Jaime answered. He looked to Carl, who was hiding something behind his back. Maya, as well as Eli, wondered what was happening, and Carl suddenly realized it. He moved one of his arms from behind his back and showed Maya a box. Maya fixed herself and received the box. She asked, "What's this?"
"It's a gift," Jaime blurted out. Carl looked over at him and back at Maya. Carl explained, "We were really proud of you for winning the District Tournament and we know how hard it is to compete. So Jaime, Ace, Mr. Herman and I all chipped in and bought you a congratulatory gift."
Maya smirked, "Do you do this to all District Tournament champs?"
Carl gasped, "What?" Jaime looked frightened and Eli was shocked at Maya's comment.
Maya laughed, "I'm kidding!" She held the gift on her lap, moving her tablet and empty bowl of soup to the side. Eli walked around and grabbed the empty bowl, excusing himself to the kitchen. Jaime sat next to Maya on the bed and said, "So how's life, District Champ?"
Maya chuckled, brushing her hair with her fingers, "Pretty adventurous so far. Didn't think I was pushing myself so hard and Pixolon would survive all this way."
"Yeah," Carl said, "I'm glad you have someone like Dr. Malani handling your bey. By the way, what is she like? We never heard of her before."
"Dr. Malani? Oh well, when I was growing up in Amarnia, Dr. Malani was the one who introduced me to beyblading since I was so good at spinning objects like coins or dice. Before I knew it, I became the only girl I knew, well, actually the only person I knew who could beyblade. She taught me everything I knew about beyblading and when I met Pixolon, the rest became history."
"Wow," Jaime said, reading into her words. It was easy to read into her mind since she had nothing to hide. That got him to thinking...why was the battle with Cole unpredictable as it was? It is true that he didn't know him well, but still...could Cole be hiding something? Jaime did a great job at helping to avenge the victims of the Jackets, but there's so much more to uncover about Jaime's ability.
Carl opened up his laptop and searched up Dr. Malani, but found little results. He read out loud, "dr malani of Palm Springs?"
Maya nodded in negativity. She opened up her laptop and typed in, calling out the search she was typing, "Lili Malani Amarnia."
She opened a link and showed it to the boys. Jaime read out loud, "Nite Creations?"
"What is that?" Carl asked. Maya explained briefly, "It's a science research lab that has several branches throughout the United States, one in Brazil, another in Trinidad, and an HQ in Amarnia. They have some of the best scientists that are rising up in the mainstream media and they've uncovered numerous discoveries about the universe that none of us could possibly think of."
"Are you serious? She's not kidding!" Jaime exclaimed, having his mind affirm what he is hearing. Carl looked suspiciously at Jaime and thought, If Jaime's mind and his ears are reading the same, then I'll have to believe it as well.
"Numerous discoveries?" Carl asked suspiciously. Maya nodded, wanting to elaborate on her statement. However, before she could continue, another two knocks were heard on her door. Maya called for it and Eli walked in with another familiar visitor. His black cap and quiet personality masked the scars of a complicated past but coped well with the sudden warm smile he gave to the peers he knew to be his friends. Jaime looked first and exclaimed, "Ace? What you doing here?"
"I thought you had that meeting with Mr. Herman," Carl pointed out. Ace's calm brown eye closed for a second and opened back up in a response. His grin widened and he answered, "It was brief. Nothing more."
His response sounded cold so no one asked further. Ace stepped forward and asked his most respected opponent, "How are you feeling?"
"Huh?" Maya was caught off-guard. She caught herself and responded, "Oh, feeling better. My body's going through a lot and I exerted myself too much when I should've slowed down."
"Understandable," Ace answered. "A formidable blader of your strength are quite hard to find, but I'm glad to see how open you are."
Upon hearing his response, Carl and Jaime looked at each other in confusion, wondering how a quiet kid like Ace could string up more than five words in such a warm response. Jaime cocked his head and wondered if Ace really did have an admiration on Maya. He may have over-exaggerated Ace's feelings before...but could it be true? That got Jaime thinking in his own head.
Ace chuckled and wondered to himself, "I wonder how Mr. Herman is doing..."
