Kara lay on the gurney, hair splayed out on the pillow, eyes closed, body seizing.

Mon El rushed towards her but was stopped by a frantic looking Alex who was helping hoist the gurney into the van.

"Stay back," she ordered. He nodded and waited for Kara to be completely inside before rushing to her side.

"Kryptonite," Alex ordered, watching Kara carefully. The panels in the sides of the van glowed green. "Sedative," she instructed after Kara grew weak enough for the needle to poke her skin.

As Kara's body slowly stopped it's frantic movement, the doctors began their tests. Alex sat next to Mon El, gripping his hand tightly. She was just as frightened as he was.

"It's an unknown form of Kryptonite Director Danvers..." his voice trailed off at the sight of blood seeping through Kara's supergirl suit and the white sheets.

"Driver? Eta?" Alex asked, noticing the blood.

"One minute," he replied. The oxygen mask was being fitted over Kara's face as they pulled into the DEO.

Kara was wheeled away to the operating theater, while Mon El sat outside, tears forming in his eyes. He hadn't seen her like this in years.

"What, what happened?" he asked an agent who was guarding the door.

"She was defending some civilians when someone injected her with some glowing liquid in a syringe. She fell to the ground and started seizing," the agent explained sympathetically.

He felt disgusted with himself. He should have been their, fighting along side her.

Two hours later, the surgeons came out of the operating theater. He hopefully looked their way, praying she was okay.

"She's in a medically induced coma. You can see her now. Director Danvers is inside."

Mon El rushed to her side as soon as the doors opened.

Her chest was being pumped by a ventilator and she had a feeding tube inserted in, some type of medication flowing through an IV into her bloodstream.

Alex fell into his arms, sobbing. "I should have protected her," she cried. He didn't answer, stroking Kara's blond hair. She looked so fragile, and young like this. Nothing like an almost thirty nine year old woman.

"It's not your fault," he said quietly.

"You should call the kids," Alex told him. "This could be their last chance to see her."

Thats when he broke. Tears fell like a torrential downpour of sobs. Alex made the call. The children would help their father come to terms a little more.

Half an hour later, Nova, Elara, Hudson, and Avery, shepherded in by a worn out looking Maggie came running. They were crying, tears falling fast.

Alex noticed the little details. How the twins cried so much like Kara, how Avery cried like Mon El, how Hudson sat stony faced, tears pooling in his eyes, so much like Clark.

Speaking of, a blur rushed into the room. Clark.

"I saw it on the news, is she okay?" he said very fast.

Alex nodded. "Most likely, we still don't know."

A knock on the door interrupted the hushed conversations.

"Mr. Matthews, I'd like you to come with me, we need to talk about your wife."

Mon El nodded and followed the doctor out into the hallway, and into his office.

The doctor looked grave, which worried him. His voice had a slight tremor when he spoke.

"See, Mr. Matthews, your wife was injected with a form of Kryptonite that caused her to be severely ill. She may have brain or nerve damage, including amnesia, but we don't know unless she wakes up the extent of that, and if it's temporary or permanent. The sun lamps are working to heal her, along with all of our equipment, but know there is a possibility she will never wake up."

"May I ask, how much is the possibility of and neural damage?"

"Twenty percent, but only five percent is the predicted possibility of permanent damage. How ever, there is another matter, that further complicates this procedure."

Mon El's eyes widened. Surely nothing could really get worse.

"You see, Kara was pregnant. She had a miscarriage due to the Kryptonite."

And then his world shattered.
