"Mum!" Theo shouts but receives no answer. As he thumps down the stairs to find his mum, he yells again. "MUM! Have you seen my trainers." He stops abruptly to the sight of his step-dad at the bottom of the stairs. As Theo scans Derek from head to toe, his eyes start to widen.
"Are those my trainers on your feet? I know that my trainers are not on your feet!" As he let the words out, his face almost instantly moulded into anger. Feeling this, he took a deep breath in.
"Why the fuck are you shouting?" Derek looks at Theo and waits for a response.
"Why the FUCK are you wearing my trainers?" Theo shouts back demanding a reasonable explanation.
"I was the one that went to the shop.I was the one that paid for them and I was the one that gave them you so therefor I CAN and I WILL wear them whenever I want. Understand?" Each I that Derek let out was to an alpha move to make sure theo knows his place. Derek takes a second to breath " Of course you do. Now be a good dog and stop the shouting before your mother gets upset. If she gets upset, you get the beating." Derek hits Theo around his head before walking away.
"Dick." Theo mutters.Theo walked to his room to grab another pair of trainers and heads downstairs to find his best friend Kasey helping Katie with her school work.
"Hey Kay, what are you doing here?" He asked looking a little surprised. "You're not meant to be here for another hour or so." He continued.
Kasey stood up "Well..excuse me for helping my favourite girl with some of the most confusing homework a nine year old could have." She replied playfully.
Theo and Kasey walked to each other hugged and gave each other a kiss.
"Kaseyyyy...Theo has germs all boys have germs remember!" Katie looked at them both laughed and made a silly face towards Theo.
"I know that" Kasey replied. "But we both know your brother is different." She said as she smiled towards him.
Theo and Kasey have been best friends since they were eight years old, they are very close to each other and have a on off relationship.
Kasey is not your typical girl, she's one of the guys which is why her and Theo click so much. She's your typical tomboy. No makeup, no girly clothes and loves sports.Katie tries to skip off but Theo grabs her and starts to throw her around playfully.
"And just where do you think you're going? I've had no hug from you today!" He asks Katie with a big smile on his face.
Katie hugs him tight and asks "We are still going skateboarding tonight right?"
Theo looks down at her and replies " Of course we are, I'm not going to miss out on our little tradition." He smiles then starts to murmur " Plus I need to get you out of this house." He looks at Kasey then kisses Katie on the head. "Why don't you go and put your homework away and watch some tv?"
" Okay, see you later alligator" Katie looked up at Theo with a smile from ear to ear.
"In a while crocodile" he replied softly. He turns and looks at Kasey.
"Kay I need to get her out of this house, I can not keep acting like everything is ok.. I think she knows what's going on..." He takes a seat and puts his head down.
"What happened now? Kasey asked him before kneeling in front of him whilst she slowly pushed his head up.
"It's the same shit that keeps happening, I just don't want it to happen to her.. you know that's why I'm still here."They both look at the floor, silence fills the air for what seems like a couple of minutes but is in fact only thirty seconds.
"I think Katie is sick..like my mum I-I just don't want to believe it she's..she's too young." He looks at Kasey with tears in his eyes.
"Teddy, she's ok. She's got you" she smiled at him before giving him a peck on his cheek.
As Kasey slowly pulled back Teddy looks up at her with a gazed look in his eyes and slightly smirks."I've missed you Kay" Teddy says softly as he wipes his tears away.
Kasey smiles and slowly leaves the room, walking to the front door. Before leaving, she softly exhales, looks at Teddy, and says, "I know.." Kasey pauses."Maybe it's time for you to come over to my place?"Knowing the back of his mind, she was right, Teddy slowly set his head on his chest. "I don't know, Kay, I really can't leave right now. She really needs me. And I don't want to be a bother to you and your mum."
Kasey walked over to Teddy and lifted his head back up before taking a deep breath. "Theodore Miles Young, you are not, have never and will never be a bother to me or my mum! She's the one who suggested you stay. She actually loves the idea of having another kid around the house." She grabs both his cheeks and looks so deep into his eyes that not even an earthquake could break the contact. "You love your sister, right?"
He nods.
"And you want to help her?"
Not knowing where she is going, he nods again.
"In order for you to help her, you have to help yourself. So help yourself and let me help you." Kasey slowly brings his head down and softly pecks his forehead.
Teddy felt like an anchor was dropping throughout his entire body, but he knew she was right. "Okay." He muttered. "I'll meet you outside. I just need to grab my jacket."
Kasey reached for the door, but before opening she spun around to Teddy and smiled as if she'd seen the greatest sunset on earth. "You know there's no step I wouldn't take for you right!"
Teddy smiled, feeling a small weight leave his shoulders, let out a breath and said, "No step."
