I was really nervous about this new job. I'd never really had proper serving experience so I had to learn from nothing. My first night there was when I met him formally. Well, as formal as he could be.
"So, you're new here huh?" His pink, long-sleeved shirt pulled around his arms as he propped himself up on the counter I was at.
I laughed, "Uh, yeah. Tonight's my first night." I smiled warmly at him and then looked down at his apron. 'Two stars. That means he's been here for a bit,' I thought.
"You're stalkin' me, you know that right?" He jokingly asked, throwing a small side smirk.
Gosh, he was cute. And it didn't help that he had the build I was totally into. His eyes were gorgeous and his lashes were the longest I had ever seen on a guy. Pure beauty.
"What?" I laughed again and shook my head. "I don't know what you're talking about. I don't even talk to you! We just happen to be in the same class and work at the same place." I let my hands talk for a moment before returning to the Micros for my training. I could feel my heart in my throat. God, I was probably blushing.
"Yeeahh, alright. Whatever you say." He let out a respectful grunt and picked up a piece of ice next to the ice holder. I turned towards him and scrunched my face in curiosity.
"What are you-"
PING! He chucked the ice at the floor, making me jump.
"What was that for!?" I responded with a small giggle. He just laughed and looked at me. He was looking at me.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Did it get on you?" Some concern rose in his voice but I knew he wasn't being serious.
"Oh, I'm fine." I rolled my eyes and smiled. "You just startled me, that's all."
"Ah, my bad. I'll stop." He grinned.
PING! Again, with the fucking ice.
I laughed for a second before Grace, my trainer, walked up to us.
"Tyler, leave her alone. She's trying to get work done, unlike you." She crossed her arms, cocking her head to the right. Her curly hair feel off her shoulder and she shifted from her right side to her left.
"Oooooo, she got you good." I cooed, hoping I didn't seem out of place for going along with her playful work banter. And hoping it didn't seem like I was flirting.
"What? Oh, come ON. All of you guys KNOW I do my job around here so don't even." He threw his arms up in retort.
Grace rolled her eyes and shifted sides again. "Alright Tyler, think what you want to think."
Tyler turned to me and whispered, "She's crazy, don't trust her." He threw a thumb back at her and smiled. I smiled and shook my head.
"I think you're wrong-"
"Hey! I heard that Tyler! You're not slick! Don't listen to him Mary Ruth, he's somethin' else." The laughs came and then soon calmed down before it was time for us to move on from this historical event.
Throughout the night, I flirted with Tyler. But, I felt absolutely horrible for it because I knew he had a girlfriend, Bree. I can't exactly remember when I had the feeling he was flirting with me but I have a Snapchat video from that night.
Later..
"Fold, tuck, roll..." I repeated each step as I folded the silverware, unaware that Tyler had been behind me for a minute or so, trying to be funny. He came over to my left side and talked to me for a second.
"So, what is God? Is he even real?" He held his hand out for my reply, a stupid smile on his face. My heart skipped, eight beats at once. I don't remember feeling my face blush but it probably was red as hell.
"Oh, I don't know. What if we aren't even real?" I laughed and continued our 'philosophical' discussion from class earlier that day.
He smiled more, making his face light up like the moon. "Aye, hey, I dunno. Maybe we're just in a simulation and god is the controller. I dunno man." He shrugged comically. That was something he did a lot, I noticed. He really did ground himself on his humor.
I continued rolling my silverware, aware of how he was watching me.
"Tyler! Could you please get us some more ice?" Heather, another server, asked him.
"Yup, I got you." His face went from smiles to serious, which made him even more attractive. "Talk to you later." He knocked twice on the counter and walked to the ice just beside us.
When he walked down to the other end of the server isle, I watched him. Not in a weird way, just in a..."oh he's cute. I wanna see him." kind of way. Then, he looked up at me, smiled, and looked away. And I knew he liked me back.
