I arrived at Panera at 7, and stood in the short line. I ordered my food and sat down. 10 minutes later, Daniel walked through the front door and approached the table with a smile.
"Hey, you look great" he complemented me, even though I was just wearing jeans and an old flannel. He on the other hand was wearing a blazer, complete with a tie. I had the feeling he didn't know that Panera was not Italian despite the name, nor fancy. He sat down across from me, realizing his choice of attire was not very appropriate. I laughed as he looked around, realizing his outfit maybe didn't fit in. No one seemed to notice, yet he blushed, sitting down.
"So how does this place work? Did the waiter already come?", He asked.
"No," I laughed, "You have to go order. Come on." I led him through the tables, winding around the chattering people. He finally got his food and we sat down. The first few minutes were spent eating, and making small talk. Finally, he spoke up.
"I've really enjoyed this. I'd love to spend more time with you." I couldn't help but blush.
"But I'd like to know something first... What do you expect from me?" He asked.
I honestly didn't know what to expect. The only time I had seen him was towing my car and in class. Apart from that, he seemed quite average. I liked him, I guess but I wasn't sure that I would want to be more than friends so the question was irrelevant.
"You seem like a nice person and all, but I'd like to get to know you better."
His eyes dropped, disappointed, which seemed strange to me since we'd just met. He perked up and smiled.
"Sure! Let me know when you're free. We can grab a coffee or something." He said.
The meal continued mostly silently, not because it was awkward, but because we'd both already made our points and didn't feel it necessary to really elaborate any further on the subject, or any other for that matter. When we finished, we both got up and exchanged goodbyes. He took both our trays and returned them. I went out the back door and he the front. Silently again which didn't make things better this time. I scurried to Eva's car and sat in front of the wheel, leaning my head against it. Well that went terribly, I thought to myself. I sighed, turning the radio on to a perky woman chattering about irrelevant whatnots.
I drove home, parked the car and opened the apartment door. Unsurprisingly, Andrea, Clare, and Eva were all sitting on the couch by near the kitchen, "watching tv". They were really waiting for me and when they caught sight of me the all jumped up and asked how it went. How DID it go? I didn't have many answers today.
"It was okay, not too bad but defiantly not excellent."
"Why? What happened?" Andrea asked.
"I don't know. He was kind of strange and I think this was all a bit too rushed anyways"
"Oh, well do you think you might go out again though?" Asked Clare, eyebrows furrowed.
So many questions I didn't seem to have the answer to. Although I said I would, on the drive home I began to regret that I'd agreed to meeting again.
"I suppose I should but I'm not sure I actually will." I slowly replied.
"Well, um, good luck with that." Said Eva seemingly unsatisfied with my answer. I shrugged it off and headed down the hall to my room. I dropped my bag on the floor and flopped on to my queen sized bed. I turned my phone on. (0) Messages. Figures. I tossed it across the room, onto the purple beanbag Ive had since I was a kid. I rolled over to face the wall opposite my door. Drawing circles with my index finger, I thought about what I needed to do.
I slid off my bed and sat down at my desk, flipping open my laptop. I be began typing my literature paper, which meant doing my favorite thing: writing. It's been my passion that has only grown stronger since the 1st grade, where I wrote a poem about kettle pots. I've kept countless journals and written hundreds of short stories and poems, expressing any and everything that goes on in my life. I continued writing my piece for a few hours when a Facebook request popped up on the next tab over. I clicked on it, relieved t get a distraction from the report.
To my surprise, it was Daniel. I accepted it and began scrolling through his page. His last name is Radcliffe, his hobbies include reading, writing, and hiking. He has 3 tattoos and a piercing, of which I saw none of. His ex girlfriend's name is Emma, and it looked like they has workers together for a while. After a little whole longer of seeing what he was all about, so,etching caught my eye: a status update that read "had a great time - with Evanna Lynch."
