Escapism: noun- the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy.

You had never been one for real-world complications.

No matter how hard you tried, you couldn't bring yourself to focus wholeheartedly on the world around you. Frankly, it was quite easy with the way the planet was basically crumbling beneath your feet. Crime rates, discrimination, global warming along with half the other bullshit the media spewed floated in one ear and came out the other. You were starting to understand the reason behind all the crazy locals that tend to stand outside with their pitchforks and their 'The end is near' signs. Despite the long list of efforts to correct all these problems, a solution wasn't going to be found- not fast enough.

So what else is there to do in a world where everything is literally going to shit and the human race is probably going to cease to exist in a couple of hundred years?

You escape.

Everyone had their own method of escaping- some normal and some...questionable. Many people blasted their music on high while flopped into the most comfortable crevice in their room and others painted. Some read books and others picked up interesting hobbies. None of those could ever compare to yours though, it was far too sophisticated to be topped by fingerpainting.

You slept.

Mind-blowing right? In this sense yes, yes it is because you're a lucid dreamer. You always fail to remember how or when it started but you do remember this sudden self-awareness in your sleep. Bending and twisting the beginnings and endings to your favorite dreams soon led to you being able to map-out most details of the dream, teetering on the realms of consciousness and unconsciousness. It was not a skill you openly talked about, but when you did you bragged.

"What the hell? You can control your dreams?" Your, oh-so-loud, best friend, Soojin exclaimed. Although it wasn't really something to be embarrassed about, you still scolded at her to quiet down a little. If you wanted everyone in this cafe to hear your business you would've brought a fucking megaphone.

"I mean-- yeah. It's just something I've always been able to do. Really cool right?"

Soojin violently nodded her head and leaned in to adhere to your previous warning about being loud.

"Heck yes, I'd kill to be able to do something like that. Maybe my fantasies of that hottie Namjoon from Economics would feel just a bit more real."

You choked on your iced coffee and scrunched your nose up in disgust as you laughed. Soojin was known for her loose lips but goddamn, you were in public and there was a table with children right next to you.

"Oh my god, Soojin please spare me the details. You want to pounce on him and his entire friend group." You chided with an all-knowing smirk.

"Is that such a crime? Have you seen the muscles on that boy Jungkook? He looks like he never gets tired. I'm positive we'd be going at it like jackrabbits-" She took her own cup and knocked it against yours repeatedly, demonstrating her point.

"Ew! I did not need that image in my head. Keep me out of your wet dreams please." This time it was Soojin's time to smirk.

"Speaking of wet dreams, I've been noticing you eyeing Yoongi from Anatomy. Sure you haven't been conjuring some compromising scenes with him with that ability of yours."

Your cheeks heated up at the mention of his name but you covered it up with an unconvincing sneer. You might have been glancing (staring) at him occasionally when he was asked to remove his shirt in class for reasons that completely left your mind when his shirt hit the ground.
