Chapter 2: What is happening?!

I turned on the TV, it showed me the last chanel dad watched days ago, I quickly changed the chanel to news. What I saw gave me shivers I stood there infront of the TV, paralyzed I was gripping the remote control so hard that it could break. I don’t know if I was afraid or just shocked.

“As you can see everyone its already 6:10 am but the sun did not rise, scientist are confused to what caused this phenomenon to happen but it is clear that it is pitch black outside no stars no moon nothing can be seen in the skies.” The female news anchor reported, she was quite confident on her delivery but she cant hide the fear that is evident in her eyes. I dazed, What’s happening what is the meaning of this? Where did the sun go?Questions kept on running in my mind.

“This is it?”The sudden confusion that is coming from the news ancor made me go back to reality, I kept on watching the TV. “An update has come about the sudden disappearance of the sun, it is said here that the sun is still in the solar system it didn’t explode it is still there and the earth is till turning” If the sun is still there what is really happening? I glanced back at the window the outside is still pitch black no light, and as I can see my neighbors is still asleep. I let out a shaky breath, looking at my phone agian, I noticed that Leslie sent me a message.

Leslie: Did you see the news?

Me: Yes

Leslie: What do you think it really is?

Me: I don’t have any idea Lez

Leslie: Can you come here please?

I stared at the message, she sent me. I turned of my phone deciding to go at her house. I went out the living room walking to bathroom with hurried steps. I only took five minutes in the shower and another five minutes changing I was clearly in a hurry, not liking the idea of being alone in an unknown phenomena that is currently happening. I stepped out the house without turning off any lights, something was telling me that I shouldn’t turn off the lights. I quickly went to the car.

The outside is completely dark there was nothing I could see and the only light that is guiding me in the way is my phone’s flashlight. I got inside the car like a speed of light and drove away. As I drove along the way I noticed that not any light was turned on all the lights of houses are turned off, it made me wonder so not even one person is awake right now? The only light that is turned on right now is my cars headlight which is not even that bright. I arrived at LesLie’s neighborhood like before not any light can be seen. Everything that is happening right now is really weird. I neared Leslie’s house and it was the only house that is illuminated by lights.

I went out the car, and ran to the front door. I turned the knob and just as I thought it was locked I knocked at the door three times before I heard Lelie’s footsteps hurrying down the stairs. While waiting I can’t help but glanced at my side every second. I was scared, terrified even. I know I’m not a kind of person that is easily scared, I Let out shaky breathes trying to keep my thoughts intact.

“Dev!”leslie squealed in delight as she embraced me, she might be happy but I can feel that she was clearly terrified. She was sobbing holding me tight.

”Im so scared Dev”She cried, I slowly pushed her off me to see her face clearly.

“Hey it’s gonna be ok, come on let’s go inside” I said as guide her inside closing the door behind us.

We are currently in the living room, Leslie is sitting down beside, “Im so afraid, Dev, we don’t know what’s happening even the smartest people in the world doesn’t have any idea,”.

She started while still wipping her tears with the sleeve of her jacket. “ You know me Dev, I get easily scared.” I rubbed her back soothing her.

“I know that, we have no idea what’s happening right now, but we just need to stick with each other”I started still rubbing here back, Leslie looked at me tears still flowing down her eyes.

“You’re right,”Leslie muttered while wipping her tears. “but we need to know more about this unknown phenomena, so let’s watch the news.” I nodded, piking up the remote control that’s on top of the coffe table. It was still the same news anchor but right now she seems more terrified than before.

“We have recieved reports from mindanao.”She stopped, glancing at the paper she is holding. “Chaos is happening there right now. People are panicking after finding out that the world is covered in complete darkness.”As she says this pictures was shown, dead bodies were everywhere, blood spluttered on roads. Cars that crashed each other. “What it seems to be just a harmless phenomenon, is now a threat to us all, it is advised to stay in your houses, for criminals might be lurking says the PNP”

I glanced at Leslie, worrying how will she react to the bad news.Leslie seems to be fine, she stares at th TV for a longtime, before taking the remote control from me and turning off the television.

“Well you heard her, we need to stay inside.” I said looking at Leslie who is looking worried and terrified still.

I sighed, I stood up from the chair going to the kitchen to fetch for something to eat, thinking that we haven’t had any breakfast at all. I opened the refregerator, taking the only edible food that I could find that doesn’t need to cooked.

Going back to the living room, Leslie was curled on the sofa, hugging her legs and covering her face. I neared her putting down the leftover that I think that is cooked last night. I sat beside her. She might be scared again. I thought to myself, I tapped her shoulder which made her look up. She looked at me, with a face that says -I need to know things about this-. she opened her mouth, “ Dev I-”, but then she stopped glancing behind me, which made look behind too. Behind the window, the outside started to get brighter but bright enough to see clearly.

Looks like the neighbors are awake now. Houses’s lights are turned on and people are going out confused. “ Looks like they’re awake now,”I said still looking outside.

“Dev, we need to investigate this phenomenon ourselves.” Leslie suddenly said, which made me glanced at her. Leslie looked determined, it was the face that she’s making when she is interested about something and by the looks of it she is interested to find out what is happening with her own hands.
