"He-Hey mom?" Richie asks, walking to the living room, where Maggie sits reading."Yes, Rich?" She places the book down.
"I—I need to talk to you."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing it's just that... I..." Richie never imagined telling anyone who he liked, but he already told Eddie and he already told his mom he was gay.
"I like this boy, a-and on Saturday he k-ki-kissed me," Richie almost whispers, but his mother still hears him.
"Your first kiss?" Maggie asks, pulling Richie into a hug.
"He kissed my cheek," Richie says, hugging his mother.
"And he said he likes me but... He said he wasn't gay and he hasn't said anything about liking me since he told me he thought he was gay. But I really like him, mom. Like really, really, like him."
"Then why don't you talk to him? What's the worse that could happen," She says, but she knows it's not so simple.
"Mom I... I like Eddie."
"You did say he liked you. Talk to him Richie. It'll all be okay, I promise," She kisses his forehead, trying to reassure him. She knows that they love each other, but she also knows love really isn't so simple.
"His birthday is tomorrow."
"Don't you think his crush asking him out would be a great birthday gift?" She asks and Richie blushes.
"Thanks Mom," Richie smiles.
The next day Richie wakes up earlier than usual, and showers. He makes much more of an effort than he would on a normal day, but today is not just any other day.
Today is Eddie's birthday, and Richie has admitted to himself that he is head over heels in love with Eddie. So he has made it his mission to keep Eddie smiling all day.
He has six presents in total for Eddie, three that he'll give him at school and three that he'll give him at the party that the Losers are having at Bill's house.
"Happy birthday Eddio!" Richie exclaims as he wraps his arms around Eddie, and the smaller boy simply giggles, which makes Richie's heart burst.
"Thanks," Eddie giggles and Richie kisses his cheek.
"I got you this," Richie hands Eddie an envelope, which takes him the by surprise because he wasn't expecting anything, much less something from Richie. He opens the envelope to see a small card, a ribbon, and two colourful marbles.
"Thanks, Rich," Eddie tilts his head up and kisses Richie's jaw, because that's the only place he could reach without pulling Richie down. Richie blushes furiously, and Beverly raises her eyebrow.
"Well I have a social studies class to get to, I'll see you guys later," She says before kissing Bill on the cheek and walking down the hallway.
"Me too. Happy birthday, Eddie," Ben smiles and follows her.
"I hu-have math ss-so... " Bill rolls his eyes at the thought of the class.
"I'm pretty sure Eddie has math too, and if I remember correctly, you have English," Stan smirks and Richie groans.
"Why'd you remind me, Stan? Jesus, now I actually have to go to class," Richie rolls his eyes and Stan chuckles.
"I'll see you guys later," Stan waves and walks down the hallway.
"Happy birthday, Eddie Spaghetti," He stoops down and kisses Eddie's cheek before turning down a different hall, smiling like an idiot.
Bill raises his eyebrow at Eddie.
