10 Years Later:
Cynara watched the rain drum on the car's window shield as she stared out of her window.
"Can you stop pouting?" Deidra, her mother asked staring over at her briefly, then back at the road.
"If we go back home." Cyn objected looking over at her mother.
"Why did you leave a book or something?" her mother asked worriedly as she parked in front of the school. "No mom. I mean home, home." She stressed as she rolled her eyes. She inched down in her seat & pouted as she sighed. She watched the droplets roll down the windshield as her mother threw the car in park & looked over to her daughter.
"This is home Syn. Whether you like it or not, your dad wanted us out here & we're here."
"This is so not fair..." "Cynara...perk up. It's your first day of school."
"In the middle of the school year, how cool." She scoffed mockingly as she folded her arms across her chest. She was stubborn just like her father and that made her mom chuckle.
"I'm glad my misery makes you happy mother." She replied looking over to the school. It was so gloomy out that they could barely see anything in front of them. She watched the kids run inside from the rain, trying to get dry.
"We'll talk after class ok? I'm not gonna be able to... " "Pick me up. I know the drill mom." She smiled fakely with a tiny sigh. She was definitely a good girl, a straight A student, but that was back at home. Here was different. Everything was darker...lonelier. She hoped school was different. "Ok, I wanna hear about your day later if I'm home for dinner ok?" her mother inquired & she nodded in approval. She gave her mother a quick hug and hopped out into the freezing rain. She grimaced at how cold it was out. Since they'd moved there, there hadn't been a decent day of sun. She clutched her book bag strap tight as she hustled up the stairs & ran into the school. She pulled her hoodie off and looked around before pulling her schedule out of her pocket. She had boring homeroom now then Literature, which she loved. She looked around as saw kids laughing & playing at their lockers. She looked to her left and saw the stairs. She went over to them & hustled up without hesitation, gliding through people like a ghost, making sure not to bump into anyone. That was all she needed to start off this sucky day an enemy. Keeping to herself was a grand plan 'til she found out what crowd was ok to chill with. After making it to the floor & searching the halls for the right class, she silently slipped to the back and sat down.
She gripped the desk and felt something grating through her fingers as she looked down. She ran her fingers a cross the engraved name that as nearly perfect. It was as if it was made that way, but she didn't see any other names on the other desks as her eyes quickly scanned the filling room. She looked back down and settled in her seat as everyone chattered amongst themselves.
'This is going well.' She thought. No one had bothered her yet & that was a great thing. She reached down and unzipped her book bag to pull out a notebook to jot any notes down during homeroom. Hell, who was she kidding she was gonna jot some of her own thoughts down while the teacher took attendance. She suddenly saw a shadow engulf her as two dark boots strolled up dripping wet.
She looked up slowly to take in dark black jeans, and a black thermal shirt, that had 4 buttons. Two were undone towards the top to reveal a black t-shirt underneath. He was also wearing a 5 button down black leather jacket to top it off. The lapel was flipped up, something a cool rock star would definitely do and she was definitely not getting a "cool" vibe from him. She looked up into his face & saw he was staring at her with such irritation that her heart quickened, but she just couldn't stop staring at him. Had she done so, she would've seen that the whole class was staring at them. He had dirty sand blonde hair & the saddest green eyes she'd ever saw. At the moment, they were locked on her in a menacing rage.
"You're in my seat." He said, through clenched teeth, in barely a whisper. His tone was angry as if she should've known better. She opened her mouth to speak, but he didn't give her the chance.
"Before you say something asinine like, "I don't see your name on it", look down... then just get up before you really piss me off." With that said she grabbed her things & got up without a word. There was no way she was challenging him. She had it in her right mind to apologize before he insulted her, but he didn't give her the chance. She had noticed the name 'Dean', etched into the desk & now she knew how it got there. He slipped down into the seat and gripped the sides of his desk as she wavered in front of him. She finally glanced at the class and saw they were definitely murmuring about what'd just happened. 'Way to stay under the radar the first day.'
"Hey!" a brunette haired girl replied waving her over a row in front of him.
"You can sit here." She replied tapping the desk to the right of her as she smiled and the bell rang. She sat down quickly and sat her book bag down on the floor.
"Are you sure this seat isn't taken?" she asked cautiously. She wasn't about to be embarrassed twice in less than five minutes. "None of the seats are assigned. Just Dean's." she answered.
"Everyone knows to stay away from him. He's...creepy." She replied shuddering.
'Great...' She thought. 'piss off the "creepy" guy of the school.'
Could her day get any worse? She bet it could. She nibbled her bottom lip as she looked down at her desk and her hair fell into her face. She brushed it behind her ear as the teacher rushed in the room, completely drenched. He was in his mid 30's it seemed and wearing glasses with a brown sweater.
Cynara sunk in her seat as she listened to him call out names. This was gonna be a long day.
