The chilly April air had nipped at my skin while I walked next to Blake, who was wearing a red and black plaid flannel with black jeans to adorn it. His shoes were an everyday set of black and white checkered Vans, which caused me to giggle silently. Boys are such boys with their fashion.
"So, uh..." He trailed off. "What do you like to do for fun?" Blake asked, in an attempt to make small talk. I placed a curious finger to my bottom lip, looking up at the clouds that passed by in a still yet ever changing motion. "I guess I like to read as my type of fun." I smiled. Blake scoffed, then let a smirk play on his lips.
"Reading? That's lame. Ever tried drinking till you pass out?" He teased. I rolled my eyes, which caused him to cough awkwardly. "Okay, back to the topic of today's plans. You said we were doing a tour around the city, right?" He asked. I hummed a response, focusing solely on a stray cat that had been sauntering around the sidewalk. "What exactly does this town offer?" He asked.
"It's a tourist town." I said simply. "It's expensive to live here, hence why it is. You'd have to have a decent income just to afford rent, which is why there's a lot of homeless on our streets or people coming and going." He nodded. "It depends on the area, but also on the home, I suppose." I shrugged, ending it. He hummed a little, looking at where my gaze was. An amused glint shimmered in his eyes. "Like cats, kitten?" He asked. "Yeah, I love ca-" I stopped, choking on my saliva. "K-Kitten?!" I muttered. Blake let out a hearty laugh, grasping his sides. "Your face! It's priceless!" He heaved, doubling over. I stood there, blood rushing to my cheeks as I looked away. "Lets just get this dumb tour over with!" I growled, stomping ahead. Blake jogged to keep up, wiping the tears from the corners of his eyes.As the tour had been coming to a close end, I shivered slightly. We were nearing the mall, and a joyful smile played on my lips as I began speeding up. Blake, not taking notice, saw where I was headed and gaped. "Whoa... The mall is huge." He said. "That's not the only thing that's huge." I hummed. Blake smirked. "That's what she said."
I stopped dead in my tracks. Blake snickered, which caused me to turn and slap his arm. He moved away in an attempt to avoid me, but I had ultimately won. "Sorry, sorry! Jeez!" He grinned. "You know, you're really fun to hang out with." He said. I rolled my eyes, hugging my body. "Yeah, yeah... That's what Kim and Jordan say." I offered a half smile. Blake looked confused, but shrugged it off.
Reaching the mall's doors, he moved in front of me and in one swift motion, opened the door. I nodded a thank you and stepped inside, welcoming the warmth and the scent of the food court, the different shops, and the overall atmosphere. I smiled and relaxed my muscles, looking at Blake. My face fell slightly when I had noticed he was staring intently at me.
"Blake?" I asked, waving a hand in his face. He stared at me for a few seconds longer before stepping closer, taking my hand in his. "You're cute." He said. I laughed awkwardly and moved away, taking my hand from his. "Thanks! You don't look too bad yourself." I said. Blake must have caught onto what had happened, since he smirked and leaned down near my ear. "What? You look mighty flustered." He said lowly. I quickly began moving forward, my bag gently bouncing against my lower back. "S-So, food court? Yes?" I silently cursed at Kim for styling my hair, but knew she was just trying to make me look and feel cute. "Yeah, let's go eat." He smiled sheepishly, following me to the food court just down the next corridor.---
After dinner and the movie, Blake and I had been heading back to my place, where his car initially was. We had lost track of time, and it was already heading onto 10 pm.
"I had fun tonight." Blake said. I chuckled. "We're not even at my doorstep and you're already telling me you enjoyed it? I need to make you watch more chick flick romance movies with me." I teased. He brought his hands up, giving me a sheepish glance. "I-I'm good after tonight. We should have just went with Captain Marvel. At least you wouldn't have been a crying mess." He said jokingly. "Oh come on, it was good!" I whined. He laughed.
We turned the corner and onto my street. I knew how dangerous it was at night, but I wasn't planning to let Blake see my fear anytime soon. I dropped my hands to my sides, looking at the streetlamp that hadn't yet been fixed. It was very dim, flickering in and out. Someone was there.
I stopped dead in my tracks. Blake had walked a few more strides before realizing I wasn't in step with him. "Amelia?" He asked, looking back at me. I felt every bone in my body freeze, but I forced my joints to work with me. I quickly made my way up to Blake and smiled. When I blinked, the figure was gone.
A trick of my eyes? I wondered.
Blake eyed me cautiously before looking ahead. My house came into view and I hadn't ever been so relieved. I sped up my walking discreetly, Blake easily falling into step. Now that we were on my porch, he grinned. "I had fun tonight, Amelia." He cooed. I snorted and let out a giggle. "Oh, real romantic." I grinned. He returned my goofy smile and brought his hand up, placing a strand of hair behind my ear.
At that moment, the air around us grew abnormally cold, and the look in his eyes made my blood run dry.
He had stepped closer, so close I was nearly against the wooden railing of my porch. He saw the look in my eyes and quickly pinned me there, trapping me between him and the small space. He held the railing with the other hand that wasn't holding my hair behind my ear. "Amelia I don't think you understand how dire this is." He breathed.
I looked down, then back up at him. "What..." I began. He leaned in to kiss me, but I quickly brought my hands up, blocking his lips from mine. Something snapped as he quickly moved back. "I'm sorry." He said quietly. Before I could even respond, he was in his car and leaving my driveway.
He left me alone to wonder what the fuck just happened.
