Chapter three: Bloody Encounter
Eight years later
Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first September was crisp and golden as an apple, and as the two best friends strolled across the gravel road toward the library in the village, the breath of pedestrians sparkled like cobwebs in the cold air.
"Hey, Alice!"
Twirling on my heels, Abi, my most treasured friend, came galloping toward me.
"Happy birthday!" She exclaimed loudly.
"Oh, why, thank you, Abriella." I responded, all smiles.
Rolling her eyes she protested, "Why can't you call me Abi like everyone else? Anyway," A smirk rolled across her lips. "Where are you two going?"
"Nowhere closed to what your thinking of." Steve mumbles from the side.
"And how would you know what's in my head?" Crossing her arms, she tapped her foot, angrily.
"Because your the biggest pervert in the whole biome." He spat out.
Her face darkened. "I am no pervert!"
I tried to hold back my laughter, but that all came pouring out. "Don't worry Abi, I don't think you're a pervert. Besides, you're beautiful, so I believe others are thinking perverted things about you."
"Awww, Alice!" She wraps her arms around my back. "What you said was a bit weird, but its the thought that counts."
A grin grows on my lips. But its true. Her chocolate brown hair, blue iris eyes, pale skin, and rosy cheeks to match, could make any man drool.
Letting go of me, she went back to bickering with Steve. Out of nowhere, someone snakes their arm around my shoulders. "I can't believe my little sister is sixteen already. They grow up so fast. It feels like just yesterday you had your hair in little pigtails, and wore your tiny school outfit."
Looking up, Logan, my guy best friend, stared down at me, a grin shaped on his face.
Ever since I met Logan Louvier, he acted more of an over protected father than a friend--or brother as he likes to refer to himself as.
As soon as Abi spotted him, she shut her mouth immediately. The first time she laid eyes upon him, she fell head-over-heels. I mean who could blame her. The way he flips his dirty blonde hair, soft peach skin, dazzling blue eyes; why who wouldn't fall in love with him.
"Happy birthday."
I snapped out of my thoughts and realized Logan was talking to me. "Hm? Oh, thanks."
"Since you're sixteen, you can finally go out into the horrible, bug infested, jungle." He frowns.
Minecraft law states, when you are officially of age (16), you have the privilege to wonder beyond the boundary of the safety of your home.
"So, Alice?"
"Hm?"
"When do you plan on venturing off?"
"Well... if I can... I was thinking I could go... now?"
I expected Logan to say things like "I don't think you should" or "not today, how about tomorrow?", but he did nothing of the sort.
"Of course you can."
What? Okay, I've been in weird situations before, but this! This is 85,000 miles passed weird. We've now hit insane.
