"Happy Birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Keith!! Happy birthday to you!" I chanted along with the crowd of students, which suddenly burst into claps and cheers. The happiness was infectious as I found myself clapping along and giving the occasional cheer.
It was Keith Darison's birthday today. Everyone knew him, he knew everyone. But he was certainly a strange one. He seems to give me a once over every once in a while, I don't understand why he does. It must be a male thing. I mean I'm guilty of him accidentally meeting my eyes. Keith was the cute-ugly kind. He had those days where he was the most attractive man ever, not supermodel attractiveness, a more simple kind of one. A simple male charm. Then there were those days he just wasn't as attractive like others. Maybe it's just me being me. Who knows.
He was a very intelligent young man, second to the valedictorian. In the swim team, amongst other clubs. He was always so lively and a bit perverted. His personality was easygoing, getting along with everyone. A stark contrast to me living in the shadows. Surrounded by darkness.
I envied him.
