Chapter 2: First day of School
In the hallway at the end of the office, I can see other students through the window in the door. Interupting my thoughts, the lady at the desk speaks.
"Natalia, this is Rayna. To ensure to happiness of our students, we have volunteer students meet our new students. Shake hands with your first friend at Butte, Natalia!"
Rayna was very pretty; long blond hair, brown eyes, skinny,a charming smile, and I guess what you would call semi-tan skin.
"Welcome to Butte!" Rayna exclaims, shaking my hand. "Come on, lets walk, and I'll show you around."
Walking up the first flight of stairs, several people litterally stop and stair at the pair of us chatting and laughing.
"Um, do they have a problem?" I ask Rayna.
"Ooohh, Natalia, I think they're checking you out!"
"What?" I ask, confused.
"They think you're hot."
"Oh...."
"So are you doing any sports? Electives?Anything outside of school?"
"Well, I'd like to do basketball and the swim team."
"Look, you started out with a great reputation--- At least 50 different guys checked you out before you were here for even an hour. Athletics will help you even more." Rayna bites her lip and looks at me questioningly. "You should do cheer. But hey, basketball and swim are great too." She flips her hair, blinks slowly, and smiles charmingly.
"Hey, Ray." A boy walks over and puts his arm around Rayna. But Rayna shrugs out of his arm.
"Seth! Stop it! We're over and you know that!"
"Geezz, Rayna!" Seth says, looking at her funny and flipping his hair. He wasn't even that attractive. Seth pulls her aside.
"Who's your hot friend over there?" He whispers to her, winking at me. Ew.
Rayna slaps him. "God you're such a player! You douche." Rayna walks back to me.
"Sorry about that. He's my ex-boyfriend. He's a man-slut!" Rayna makes a grossed-out face. "But don't worry about him. He doesn't have a chance with you."
"He obviously wants you back." I say, just to say something. Just then the bell rang.
"Where's your homeroom?" Rayna asks.
"I have Mr. Fitz, for English."
"Ooh, on the third floor! Same here! We can walk together!" Rayna grabs me and we go up the stairs to the third floor.
"Here's Fitz's class! Meet me by Ms. Locket's room after class." Rayna waves bye and walks off.
As soonn as I walk in the classroom, nearly every eye is on me. Tucking a strand of dark brown hair behind my ear, I take a seat by a group of girls.
"You hang out with Rayna?" A girl with blonde hair and blue eyes asks me.
"Well, I just met her today. I'm new here, and she's ok, I guess. I'm Natalia, by the way." I answer.
"You can be her friend if you want to, but just to warn you, she can be....controlling. I'm Alison. Ali for short. Oh, my gosh, your shirt is totes adorbes! You should so come shopping with me and Regina! Come to the mall with us after school today? I'll drive." Alison smiles sweetly.
"Sure, let me text my mom." I slide out my phone while Mr. Fitz isn't looking.
"Oh, while you have your phone out, is it alright if I put me and Regina in your contacts?"
I hand her my phone. After a few seconds, she hands it back over.
Mr. Fitz shoots me a look. Phone away. He mouths. I slide it back into my back pocket.
"Good morning, everyone." Mr. Fitz steps up to the podium at the front of the classroom."As I'm sure you've all noticed, we have a new student." He gestures to me. "Why don't you introduce yourself? And tell us a little something about you."
"Hey I'm Natalia."
"Tell us something about you!"
"Uh...I..um...I...eat raw potatoes..?"
Well I sure as heck wasn't going to say I fart uncontrollably.
