Final thoughts as I officially abandon this story!
I actually had no idea where I was going with it. In fact, it ended up splitting into two separate stories. One was still fanfic while the other is an original story I'm still trying to construct.
The fanfic is -- surprise -- incomplete. I don't even think I wrote a full chapter on it. This one was more closely related to Witch Hunt, but the characters had different powers/magic. More details on that later.
My original story took Witch Hunt's basic plot and main characters with their initial magic/powers. (Fun fact: Jack's magic abilities also got split between these stories. Fanfic Jack kept the Seer abilities while original story Jack took the fire magic.) It's something I've been continuously trying to flesh out but here's the basic gist: magic people/creatures are seen as unacceptable in modern society. So people like Mark, Jack (who don't have definitive names yet) and their friends grow up trying to hide their differences. As they reach maturity, they decide to take a stand against this discrimination, and then Plot ensues.
So yeah. Witch Hunt was kind of doomed from the start. But at least it gave life to an original story.
