Elmer's hands shook as he held the bouquet of white roses.
Her favorite.
Elmer really loved this woman, she was his everything, she was all he had. He reflected back on all the mornings he woke up to with her laying on him, all the nights that they spent just walking through the city, and all the holidays they spent with each other. His face was flushed, but then again, every time he merely thought of her he blushed. She made him feel like a little kid on his birthday, waiting to see all his friends and family at his birthday party.
Elmer got out the car and didn't even bother to lock it. The formal beautiful white roses contrasted with his casual clothes. Ripped jeans, a grey hoodie, and his black tennis shoes. He remembered that she loved that hoodie, often times when she didn't steal it she was snuggling into it, while he was wearing it of course.
Elmer smiled as he remembered all those moments that they spent together.
Today was her birthday, and he was paying her a visit. He remembered all those years ago when he met her, they were just strangers, but who would have thought they'd turn into this? Elmer certainly hadn't expected it, but he was so happy they did. She was his only sunshine, and she always brightened him up, even on his darkest days.
He got down on one knee, and a small smile formed on his face. A small gust of wind blew his hair into his face, he pushed it back.
"Hey, bunny," He spoke to her and called her by the cute name he gave her.
"Happy birthday, I love you," He said as he set the bouquet on the ground, right in front of her headstone. It's been about a year and a half since she died. Elmer has been getting along, but barely.
"I miss...I miss you," his words barely made it out of his mouth, his throat seemed to be holding them back. He finally gave in and let the tears run down his face.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there, I'm sorry I couldn't help you when you needed me most," Elmer was now on his hands and knees, heaving out sobs. He's been blaming himself for the accident, and blaming himself for not being at the hospital when she died. She had gone to visit a family member that lived quite far away, and Elmer had stayed.
"I miss you so much, it's so fucking hard being here without you," Elmer's rough small gasps forced their way out of his mouth while he spoke.
"I can't wait to see you again, bunny. I hope it's really soon," Elmer's tears were practically binding him, but he could've swore he saw someone. He could've swore he saw a glimpse of Yn. The figure wore the same clothes she wore the day she died, but he couldn't quite make out the face.
"I....I really love you. I love you so so so so so much, Yn. I don't think I can manage much longer without you," Elmer sobbed and pressed his head against the grass that grew above her body's resting place.
"I hope you can hear me, bunny. I still keep a picture of you and I next to my bed, it makes me feel a little better...Goddamnit, Yn! Why'd you have to leave me alone on this horrible planet?!," Elmer was unconsciously ripping blades of grass from the ground," ...Why'd you have to leave me here?"
Elmer lied on the ground, to any passerby he may have looked like a mess. But he wasn't just a mess, he was a broken mess, a heart broken mess, an incomplete heart broken mess. Elmer's tears were running out, but they still came plentifully. He squeezed his eyes shut and gritted his teeth as he beat the ground beneath him. One of his hands made its way to his chest, and he clutched the necklace he wore. On the necklace was a ring. The ring he was going to propose to Yn with. He hardly ever took it off, he only took it off to shower.
"Bunny..."
