*The music on the side is if you’re bored, it has nothing to do with the book. Mostly I listen to it while editing.*
He paid for it, and we left, getting into his car, he looked at me for a little while, and shyly asked "Do you want to come for dinner?"
"Sure." I blushed, but feeling my phone buzz made me look at it.
'I wasn't going to be home anyways, Have a good time.' I smiled, "are you're parent's going to be there?" I said, and realized that came across wrong by looking at his face, "I mean- to meet them. That's what I meant. Nothing else."
"Well, no, but they left for San Diego this morning. But my housekeeper, Karen will be. She usually cooks me dinner because my parents are almost always gone...for business reasons."
"It sounds fine." I smiled.
He drove for about 11 minutes, and we got to Carnegy Street, and his house had a nicely mowed lawn, nicer than when I walked by it at 5 this morning. He drove up to it, pressed a button, and the spiral gates opened. I chuckled thinking 'of course.' He parked, walked up to the door and the door opened as a woman who was a bit heavy and in her 40's opened the door and threw her arms around Noah, and pulled off quickly, looking at me, with a scorn, "who's this?"
"Karen, this is my girlfriend, Courtney."
"But you were dating Lily, she was so-nice." she said, I looked at my converse, and cleared my throat.
"I broke up with her, she was so snobby, because we are 'poorer' than her."
"So, when was that?"
"Yesterday, after school."
"So you got over her that fast?" she said skeptical.
"Well, actually-" he said, I don't think he had an excuse
"I asked him out."
"I see." she said walking away, leaving the door opened, so I followed Noah into their house.
"She's staying for dinner." he said, once he kept up with her.
"Okay, what do you eat? Nothing?" She chuckled looking at my stomach, and she was partially right, but how could I let her know that I had an eating disorder?
"Um, well, I'm vegan, so whatever."
Karen just laughed and laughed, then realized I wasn’t kidding. "So, mixed greens?"
"Sure. Sounds, really good."
"C'mon," Noah said, gesturing me to follow him "I'll show you the house." I followed him, and then he showed me the living room.
"I'm fine sitting here." I said.
"Alright, you want to watch TV or....?"
"Sure." I said, maybe thinking it wasn't such a good idea. "Or, I could leave?"
"Leave?" he said, sitting next to me on the red love-seat, looking at me.
"If we're," I lowered my voice, "going to pretend we're dating, then, i need to dress better." I laughed, looking at what I was wearing. "And, I need makeup if I'm going to impress Lily, and insure that she's jealous." I said, making up something, as I just remembered that I needed to go to work, but how embarrassing is that? I work at the coffee shop, and make minimum wage...I couldn't tell him that!
"Fine, we'll go to another store, before they close."
"You know-its fine."
He pulled out his nice (I mean really nice) leather wallet and gave me $200, "that should cover a few days’ worth of clothes and makeup, right?"
"Well, depending...But, I'll make it work."
