"Do, I don't care what you say, he's a good detective, and you're working with him. That's an order." Oh Sehun leaned back in his chair and rolled away from his desk. "Dismissed."
Kyungsoo bit his lip in frustration and continued to try to argue with his commander. "Sir, Park is the worst detective here, he's terrible at working cases."
"You're simply terrible at working cases with people. Chanyeol's work ethic may be a bit... quirky, for lack of a better word, but he gets the job done. End of discussion, Detective Do, leave my office."
Kyungsoo stormed out and slammed the door shut. He already couldn't believe he was investigating sightings of ghosts, but now he had to work the stupid fake case with Park Chanyeol? Ever since Kyungsoo's first case on the job, he had hated the man for ruining their undercover mission to arrest a drug ring. Chanyeol had prematurely revealed himself as a cop and started a shootout. They were lucky to be alive. Ever since then, Kyungsoo had never worked a case with Chanyeol again.
"Hey Kyungsoo!" Chanyeol called out cheerily from his desk, "Guess what? I just found out that M&Ms are a rapper too. Things in pop culture are crazy!"
Kyungsoo breezed past him with an air of ignorance. He was so focused on ignoring Chanyeol that he ran right into Sergeant Jongin. Jongin's muscles felt like fists against Kyungsoo's face.
"Kyungsoo, I keep telling you to wear your glasses," Jongin chided, "Man, your face is gonna bruise just like last time, you know you need to be careful around my pecs."
Kyungsoo frowned and marched off to find his glasses. Chanyeol somehow always managed to ruin his day, and in just the same way, Kyungsoo knew he was going to ruin the ghost case.

Chanyeol jumped through the open window, with his gun held in his hands. Kyungsoo rolled his eyes as he entered the warehouse through the unlocked front doors. "Idiot," he mumbled under his breath. Aloud, he said, "The door was open, you shouldn't pull stunts like that, they can give your location away."
Chanyeol grinned widely. He popped up and held his gun and flashlight out. "Ghosts can see you either way. Besides, it made me feel cool."
"This clearly isn't a case about ghosts, that's just what the people have been reporting. It's most likely some homeless crazy guy, or maybe an actual criminal. We need to be careful." Kyungsoo couldn't believe he had to explain this to a person who managed to get into the police force. How the hell does a guy like Chanyeol even pass anyway?
"You don't believe in ghosts, Kyungsoo?" Chanyeol frowned, "Why's that?"
"It's Detective Do to you, first of all," Kyungsoo corrected, "And second of all, no, I don't believe in ghosts." He maintained a low whisper-conversation with Chanyeol the entire time that they investigated the warehouse.
Something fell in the distance with a loud, metallic clatter, and Chanyeol gasped lightly. He swung his gun and flashlight in the direction of the noise, then began to approach slowly. Kyungsoo followed close behind. This is our guy, Kyungsoo thought with anticipation. He hated to admit it, but these cases always filled him with adrenaline. He liked the thrill of it.
They reached the source only to find a fallen box of spoons. "Man," Chanyeol breathed, "Who knew spoons could be so scary." Kyungsoo brushed past him and squatted to get a better look at the spill. He observed the way the box had fallen and how the spoons were positioned.
"By the looks of it, the spoons fell first," Kyungsoo commented.
"Uh, I don't think that matters, but that is an interesting detail, I guess." Chanyeol turned around and started searching the rest of the warehouse. Tall metallic, skeletal shelves stood everywhere with miscellaneous items.
After a minute, Kyungsoo stood and followed. He felt a hand grab his shoulder, and he whirled around shouting, "Police, put your hands up!" But no one was there. Kyungsoo hesitated, unsure of what happened. He didn't dare lower his gun though. Instead, he quietly rounded the corner of the tall shelf and tried to find the lurking perpetrator. To his confusion, he didn't find anyone, anywhere.
Chanyeol joined him a moment later. "What's up? Where are they?" His head whipped around, but he didn't see anyone. "They got away?"
Kyungsoo's shoulders slumped. "I don't know. I felt someone touch my back, but when I turned around, no one was there. I'm not sure where they ran off to. Let's split up and search."
The two went in opposite directions and methodically searched the entire warehouse. They heard a scream, and ran in it's direction. In the end, they bumped into each other. "Shit," Kyungsoo cursed, "You heard that, right?"
"Loud and clear," Chanyeol panted, "And yet, no one. There's no one." He rubbed his chest, where Kyungsoo's head had hit. They shared a look. "Maybe..." Chanyeol began.
"Shut up," Kyungsoo interrupted, "There's no ghosts here. Someone's just playing games with us. Come on, lets... lets scope the place one more time." They did so, but found nothing again. It was starting to become really annoying to Kyungsoo. He didn't appreciate the circumstances one bit. On the other hand, Chanyeol was starting to spiral into the mindset that he was in ghost territory. He started to hyperventilate.
Kyungsoo saw a body on the other side of the shelf he was standing by. He ran quickly and quietly to that aisle, and found nothing. "What. The. Hell." He gritted his teeth and followed another shadow that appeared. "Aha!" It was just Chanyeol, shivering in place. "God damn it."
"Sorry," Chanyeol mumbled, "But I'm freaking out over here. Kyungsoo - "
"Do," Kyungsoo corrected.
" - Do, I think there really is a ghost in here. Those people weren't lying. The reports aren't false."
"Don't be such an idiot," Kyungsoo was getting ready to dive into a scolding when he suddenly spotted something out of the corner of his eye. He turned immediately, and met with a very dark shadow at the far end of the aisle. It stood there ominously. "See, Detective Park, there's our criminal," he murmured with a smirk.
Chanyeol looked over and shook his head. "Doesn't look human to me," he argued.
Kyungsoo held up his gun. "Put your hands in the air," he ordered as he walked closer. The figure remained motionless. Kyungsoo repeated his instruction, to no avail.
"Stop?" Chanyeol suggested in a high-pitched, terrified voice.
"Put your hands in the air!" Kyungsoo yelled. The shadow threw itself at him, and Kyungsoo reacted with a bullet straight to the perp's face. It screamed and disappeared. The bullet ricocheted off the shelf and dropped to the floor, clean. Kyungsoo cursed mercilessly under his breath as he looked back at Chanyeol.
"Ghost," Chanyeol explained briefly. Kyungsoo nodded vaguely. That might have actually been a ghost. He went over to Chanyeol and helped him up.
"I guess you were... right," Kyungsoo managed to say, "I guess... Ghosts are... real - maybe." He almost scoffed at himself for saying that, but he wasn't sure how else to explain what they just experienced. "Well, we can't tell this to Commander Sehun. We'll just explain that there was nothing here."
"But..." Chanyeol trailed off. Kyungsoo prodded him with a questioning glance. "I feel like we have to do something," Chanyeol finished.
Kyungsoo made a face. "What are we supposed to do? Call Ghostbusters?" His voice oozed sarcasm.
"I don't know," Chanyeol shrugged sheepishly, "Become ghost hunters ourselves?" Kyungsoo started walking away. "Wait!" Chanyeol called out, "Come on. The commander's just gonna keep us on this case as the reports pile up anyway. We get rid of the ghost, and the complaints will stop."
Kyungsoo shook his head. "I still don't know what just happened, okay? Besides, even if this is a ghost, how are we going to kill a ghost? I'm quitting this case."
~~~
"You can't quit this case," Sehun ordered, "There are too many complaints, and the reports are piling up. I want you to keep working on it until people stop reporting on it."
Kyungsoo cursed.
"What was that, Detective Do?" Sehun questioned rhetorically.
"Nothing, sir," Kyungsoo said, "I'll work the case."
"With Detective Park," Sehun added.
"With Detective Park," Kyungsoo muttered begrudgingly. He left the commander's office and passed by Chanyeol's desk.
"What'd Commander Oh say?" Chanyeol questioned.
Kyungsoo's mouth tightened. "We're staying on the case until it's resolved."
Chanyeol threw his arms up happily. "Haaa!" he squealed, "The ghostie boys are in business! In all seriousness though, I'm extremely upset and scared. And I guess I have to start packing extra undies for work now."
At the moment, Kyungsoo wanted to hit his head on Jongin's painful abs until his skull cracked. Maybe then the case wouldn't matter anymore.
