Chanyeol rolled his chair over to Kyungsoo's desk and leaned closer. He had a lollipop and a dopey smile on his face as he said, “I managed to pack bullets with salt! Well, I managed to find someone to do it for me, weird guy, but he charges a cheap price.”
Kyungsoo heaved a sigh as he slapped a thick file folder down on his desk. It was filled with information on drug lords and murderers. Normal stuff, Kyungsoo thought as he pulled out a slimmer file folder. “This is our next case together,” Kyungsoo informed. He opened up the folder and started showing Chanyeol the reports of ghostly activity in an old house.
“Mm…” Chanyeol popped out his lollipop with a loud smack and pointed it at the reports. “Definitely seems like a ghost for the ghostie boys to catch. When do we start?”
“Today,” Kyungsoo stated, “We're going to question some of the victims and witnesses.” He closed the file again and scowled as Chanyeol continued sucking on his lollipop. “Could you stop eating that candy so loudly and grossly?”
Sergeant Jongin passed by them and commented on Kyungsoo's scowl. “Stop straining your eyes and put your glasses on,” he insisted. Kyungsoo dug his glasses out of his drawer and plastered them onto his face.
Chanyeol grinned again. “Aww, look at that adorable nerd,” he teased. Kyungsoo huffed and grabbed his jacket. He put it on as he walked away from Chanyeol.
“Oh, you meant right now?” Chanyeol panicked as he rushed to catch up to Kyungsoo.

“My daughter was hurt very badly in that house. She woke up screaming, and had these awful scratch marks on her back,” the young mother lamented as she showed Kyungsoo and Chanyeol her daughter’s bare back. Sure enough, there were red, swollen streaks along it.
The little girl ran from the kitchen and to her room in tears. Her mother turned to the detectives, teary-eyed herself. “She's still not over it. This past year has been hard for us. We moved out of that cursed house as soon as possible, but it's so hard to forget.”
Kyungsoo comforted her with a hand to the shoulder. “It's okay, miss. We're going to investigate the house and end this for good. Your contribution is appreciated greatly, and you're helping us save others.”
Chanyeol nodded compassionately in full agreement. He was also eating muffins that their host had left on a plate for them.
“Thank you detectives, for believing me. All the other cops think I'm a liar, but why would I lie after my little girl got hurt?” the woman wiped away a tear. “I'm just glad the police department is beginning to acknowledge ghostly phenomena.”
“Well…” Chanyeol squeaked, “Not exactly. We're kinda - “ Kyungsoo stuffed a muffin into Chanyeol's mouth, so the rest of the sentence was muffled “ - on our own here with no backup.”
“I'm sorry, what did you say?” she asked, slightly concerned. Kyungsoo laughed and shook his head, denying that Chanyeol had said anything at all.
“We should really get going, ma’am. Again, thank you.” Kyungsoo dragged Chanyeol out in a hostile manner and didn't let go until they were in the car. “You idiot, why would you say that?” Kyungsoo chided.
Chanyeol pouted and rubbed his arm where Kyungsoo had squeezed. “I was just correcting her, the police department doesn't even know we're tracking ghosts in the cases we've been picking up.” He looked out the window forlornly. It seemed like everything he did upset Kyungsoo.
“God, everything you do upsets me,” Kyungsoo bluntly said, ridding Chanyeol of his doubts. “You can't say things like that. She needs comfort, she needs to believe we're capable. She won't get that if we prance around announcing that the entire police department isn't behind us on these - these ghost hunts!”
“I'm sorry,” Chanyeol apologized sheepishly with red cheeks of shame. He hadn't thought about that. He felt bad about letting Kyungsoo down, and almost letting that woman down.
Kyungsoo glanced over and saw Chanyeol's frown. He sighed and attempted to backtrack, but only slightly. “Don't worry about it. Just stop talking without a filter.” He started driving to their next destination: the haunted house.
~~~
“Wow,” Chanyeol breathed, “That's a big place.” The pair looked on at the towering mansion, gated in and surrounded by hunkering trees. It had a dark palette, and an ominous vibe. “If houses had names, that'd be Kyungsoo,” Chanyeol joked as he pointed at the house.
Kyungsoo shoved his glasses up his nose and got out of the car. He decided he'd be better off not responding to Chanyeol's jab. As he walked up to the gate, Chanyeol excitedly ran past him and scaled the gate like a ninja, landing on the other side smoothly. He looked back with an enormous grin and waved at Kyungsoo through the bars. “Come on, are you a snail or what?”
Kyungsoo pushed the gates open and slipped through. “No, just smart.”
“And boring,” Chanyeol added in a wise tone. He followed Kyungsoo's calm steps up to the front door, where they then held up their guns full of salt bullets.
“On my say,” Kyungsoo ordered quietly, “One, two, three.” They barged in and scoped the place. Chanyeol went upstairs while Kyungsoo stayed on the main floor. Most of the reports had been centered around the basement, so the two detectives had already decided to explore that part of the house together.
Chanyeol was always afraid when he parted ways with Kyungsoo, but he kept thinking of the house as Kyungsoo in order to muffle his fear. Oddly enough, the little joke was actually helping. Until Chanyeol heard a painful groan downstairs. It sounded like Kyungsoo, so he bolted down to the main floor. There, he found Kyungsoo pinned to the far wall, a meter above the floor.
“Oh no,” Chanyeol freaked out and ran to get a better angle at where he figured the ghost would be. He took aim and shot, but it was too late. A gust of wind forcefully entered Kyungsoo's mouth. “A-are you possessed?” Chanyeol asked. The response he received was overwhelming. Kyungsoo's body flew toward him and tackled him to the floor.
Chanyeol grunted, although he silently thanked the heavens that Kyungsoo was a small man. “Let me taste you,” Kyungsoo said in a guttural voice. He tried to kiss Chanyeol, and his strength was incredibly powerful. Chanyeol had to struggle greatly to keep Kyungsoo's mouth away.
“Dirty ghost, dirty ghost!” Chanyeol proclaimed unhappily as he fumbled with his gun. He attempted to lift it up, but Kyungsoo smacked it far away. “I needed that,” Chanyeol whined. Kyungsoo landed a kiss on Chanyeol's eyeball, causing him to cry out in pain. He continued to fight off Kyungsoo as best he could, and when Kyungsoo went to kiss his neck, Chanyeol felt what he needed to feel.
“I like that,” Kyungsoo murmured. Chanyeol squealed. Okay, I felt what I needed to feel to realize what I needed to realize, he thought. Chanyeol had felt Kyungsoo’s… package, and thought it was his gun. Even though it wasn't a gun at all, it helped Chanyeol remember that Kyungsoo still had a gun on him.
He reached around to Kyungsoo’s hip, grabbed the gun, and shot a bullet of salt into Kyungsoo's ankle. Kyungsoo screamed, and a wispy wind blew out of his mouth. He fell to the side and threw up. Chanyeol shot at the wind a few more times until it went out with an explosion.
“Let's get you to the hospital,” Chanyeol said as he picked up Kyungsoo and carried him to the car. It was almost funny, thinking about how they looked to an outsider. The image made Chanyeol want to laugh, but he figured he should save the laughs for another day.
Once he got Kyungsoo into the passenger's seat, he got in the driver's side and took off past the speed limit. He hoped he didn't get pulled over by another cop, or else he could get suspended.
~~~
“Chanyeol, you're suspended for two weeks. I'll take your gun and badge after you file out the form,” Sehun furrowed his eyebrows after a pause, “Is that a hickey on your neck?”
Chanyeol cleared his throat and self-consciously slapped a hand around his neck. “Just a bruise from the case, captain,” he laughed nervously. He couldn't believe he had gotten caught speeding. Fortunately, he was caught by the local policeman Kim Jongdae, who was known for his leniency and kindness. He let Chanyeol keep the car with no fines and drove Kyungsoo the rest of the way to the hospital. Of course, by law, Jongdae had to report Chanyeol to Commander Sehun, but overall, the day wasn't that bad.
Also, Chanyeol counted himself lucky that Kyungsoo didn’t remember anything from when he was possessed. He had told Kyungsoo that he accidentally shot him during the case, so Chanyeol's suspension was only extended by an additional week.
~~~
A week later, Kyungsoo returned to work with a cast on his ankle. The bullet wound was healing nicely, and he felt kind of cool with his first injury on the job. He just wished he could remember what happened while he was possessed. Chanyeol wouldn't fess up on much.
“Hey, did you see the hickey Chanyeol had on his neck?” Minseok said from his desk by Sehun's office. He was the commander's assistant, and always knew about the latest gossip. “I think he got it from the victim's mom. I bet she's a milf.”
Kyungsoo had an ominous feeling about that hickey, but he decided to not think about that. Instead, he focused on his filing.
