Kicking the stones of the gravel path, the robot designed in red and black stared down at his high heeled boots as he walked. Tears welled up in his mechanical eyes. Just a little ways down the path, a skeleton and a fish monster slightly taller than her companion walked and talked hand and hand. Mettaton could overhear their sweet talk and banters, his booming laughter and her rasped giggles. As he sighed, the blue mutant turned her head to see if the automation was still following, which he was.

"Papyrus...he's still behind us," Undyne whispered as she leaned her head over to said skeleton. She watched Mettaton closely with her good eye.

"Just ignore him, he'll disappear after awhile," Papyrus assured. Undyne looked skeptical, but nodded in agreement as they continued their stroll. The couple had arrived to their destination, Undyne's home, and they quickly slipped through the door. Both monsters poked their heads through the curtain, then locked the door to avoid confrontation from the jealous robot. Mettaton muttered under his breath before walking up to the fish shaped house. He knocked on the entrance softly and waited.

The two groaned at the knocking. "Who should answer?" Undyne asked, still peeking through the window.

"I can, you stay here," He patted his girlfriend's back and smiled before answering the door. His empty eye sockets met with the piercing yellow irises of Mettaton.

"H-Hello Papyrus!" Mettaton squeaked, almost too eagerly. The skeleton only glared.

"What do you want this time? I thought I made it perfectly clear I didn't want you anywhere near my family," Papyrus growled as he studied his possible provoker. "Or is this for your dumb ratings?"

Mettaton gulped and seemed to shrink. "No, this has nothing to do with my show! I just wanted t-to ask something..." Undyne readied a spear as she listened in on the conversation.

Papyrus's eyes glowed a faint red. "If this is another date offer, then you can get off of this property. I already said no," He turned to shut the door, but a gloved, automated hand grabbed his shoulder.

"Papy, wait! I know we would be great together if you would just give me a chance," Mettaton begged. "Just one date, I promise you won't be disappointe-"

The undead monster shoved him away and snarled. "Get your filthy hands off of me! I told you a million times, I HATE YOU!" Mettaton cowered as his eyes began to water again. "I want you to leave me and my family alone. Undyne is the one I love, not you! I could never love someone as selfish, needy and downright idiotic as you. Now, LEAVE." Papyrus huffed as he slammed the door in the robot's face.

"I...P-Papy..." Mettaton backed away and fled the residence. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he ran down the path. He continued running, wanting to get back to the lab and hide in solitude. As he reached Hotland however, he slowed his pace as he began to feel lightheaded. He held his hand over his chest as he began to cough. Falling to his knees, he closed his eyes and heaved and whooped until he could barely breathe. After he caught his breath, he opened his eyes to reveal... petals? Red rose petals, it seemed. Mettaton's marvel was cut short as another wave of coughing came. His vision blurred as he coughed, and he laid on the ground, as darkness faded in.

The bionic monster awoke in a bed. The room was dark, the lights dimmed to a level of almost complete black. A bright flash appeared in front of Mettaton's face. His eyes adjusted to see a familiar lizard, complete with a lab coat and her spiraled glasses. His small smile wavered as she pulled out a cart of medical instruments.

"Alphys?" He asked, hoping to get some information.

The dinosaur resembling monster grabbed some latex gloves. "Good morning, Mettaton. I found you in Hotland, coughing rose petals. It seems you have a case of Hanahaki Disease. Don't worry, it's treatable. Just some minor side effects," She said as she adjusted her glasses.

Mettaton gulped as she prepared her tools. "Side...effects?"

"Yep. Nothing big, in fact it should solve you're little love problem," Alphys took some measurements of the robot and jotted down notes. "The surgery will leave you unable to feel any love for Papyrus anymore."

"None at all..? What would I feel for him then?" Mettaton asked.

Alphys shrugged. "Depends on the patient, I suppose. Now lay down.." She grabbed a syringe and scalpel. "And open wide."

The next day, Mettaton awoke feeling empty. The surgery had gone off without a hitch, and he already felt the effects. While Alphys was gone, he slipped out of bed and trotted down that same graveled path, hoping to spot his former love. After awhile, they showed up. They both shared the same banter and compliments like yesterday as they walked. The robot watched them in secret, ducking behind a tree to spy upon the two. Suddenly, a pang built up inside of him as his eyes landed on Undyne. An indescribable feeling, one that made him want to hurt. Not just anyone, but her. A devilish grin crawled across his face. Once the couple were out of sight, he headed for the lab.
