"i was a criminal.
for many years, under the influence of my parents i was a criminal. i was blinded by my name, i was branded with the dark mark, i let the death eaters into my second home, i was to kill my headmaster and to top it all off, i was a bloody bastard to everyone i've ever met. all i should be sentenced to is death."

that is what draco malfoy said at his trial in front of the entire ministry, half of the slytherin house, his mother, and worst of all, the golden trio. he was expecting the same fate as his (late) father. the kiss of the dementor was the most gruelling and emotionally damaging thing draco had ever witnessed. he was forced to watch the life drain from his father's eyes as all of his sins flashed before them. draco felt so many emotions at once he had to sit down, and the chair thrusted under his shaking legs did nothing to ease the excruciating pain throbbing through his veins.

Though the fact that draco attested for his wrong doings was shocking, it wasn't the maddest part of the evening. harry potter, the boy who draco tormented tirelessly for the good part of 6 years, the boy who saved the wizarding world from a man so vile and cruel, the boy who was set to speak against draco in a case of life or death, stood up and spoke in draco's favour. all eyes widened and you could see the gears turning in rita skeeter's head as she summoned her charmed pencil and notebook.

draco was ready to die, but in the events that followed the blasted trial he realized that it wasn't so simple after all.
