As Rayleigh drives, she can’t forget the fear she felt. His touch lingers in every crevice and on every exposed part of her body. She shivers in response, remembering the way his breath felt hot and disgraceful on her skin. What does he want? And who exactly should she not trust so easy? Her head fumbles over the details but she never gets far in her thoughts.

Charlene stirs in her sleep beside her in the passenger seat. Street lights blur in bright orbs through the front windshield as Ray drives slowly through the dreary streets of Milwaukee. The rain comforts her, making her breathing come easier up from her lungs and through her throat out of her mouth and through the space between her quivering lips.

Neither woman got home until roughly four in the morning. Ray leads Charlene up the front porch steps to her home. As her key turns and the bolt clicks to the right side, Ray is washed over with an immense feeling of relief. Finally home to a safe place, out of the rain and into the solitude of her home. Leading Charlene to the couch, she lays her down gently. Her friend moves as if she’ll wake up as Ray removes her shoes and slides her damp coat off her shoulders and onto the recliner diagonal of them. Grasping the blanket and wrapping it around herself, she’s right back into a deep sleep. God knows she’ll have quite the hang over when she hangs up.

Too tired to even sleep, Rayleigh walks into the kitchen to fix herself a cup of coffee. Just like old times, she thinks to herself. There’s no sense in taking her medication because how the hell could she sleep with the residue of that man in the alley’s touch still lingering on her skin? Sickened by the thought of his hands on her once again, she shudders and sits adjacent from Charlene, still dreaming of surreal things, and sets her laptop on her crisscrossed knees. Her shoulders relax because of the pressure; the homey feeling the computer filled with memory gives her. Opening up the computer, Ray sets out on finishing just a few more chapters. Thinking of possibly, adding in a few of the most recent events in her life. You know, just for a little twist?
