The muffled sound of the tracks was all that could be heard in the train car. No one spoke, as many decided to spend this time asleep. Wherever they were heading, each soul needed to be well-rested. Whatever intentions the other person held was unknown, for only you yourself can truly know where you're going.
The sound of a chiming bell broke the fragile silence, a vibration on my lap. Turning the phone over in my hand, I stared at the caller ID. It said '母', or 'Mother'.
I merely stared at the screen blankly, the smiling icon lighting up with each ring. I eventually just declined the call, watching as the icon turned sad. The phone dropped facedown into my lap once more.
'I'm sorry, mom...'
The train was dark as we continued on, the sky glistening with stars. It was hard to believe I wouldn't see them again after tonight, but that didn't matter. I would have all I'd need at my side, and I'd be at their's.
I had left my family a note saying I loved them, that I didn't want to go, but didn't know what to do anymore. They were still trying to find me a few hours after I left. Everything just became too much, and I had no idea what I was meant to do in this world.
Even after the train pulled into the station I had no idea of my true purpose. As I walked through the neon streets, everything seemed bland and common. Nothing felt unique anymore, and I'd hated it. Passing a streetsign for an event this year, 2021, I entered a building. I began to climb all the stairs inside, making my way to the roof, making sure I wasn't late while I took my time. My hands gripped the straps, feeling the weight of a backback on my back. I reached the top, pushed the door open, and stepped out into the cold winter air. A figure stood at the edge across from me, facing away, hands clasped behind their back. With the sound of the door closing, they turned to face me. Their mouth moved, but their words hardly reached me. They were all I needed in this life, and we were both fading. I walked towards them, watching their smile, unable to hear their words. I took their out stretched hand, placing my backpack down next to theirs, the names "Tamashi" and "Onaji" stitched onto the fronts.
Eventually, I faced them again, feeling uncertain for s fragment of a second before I smiled. They pulled me into a tight bug for a few minutes, and then let go. I faced the edge of the building with them.
"Ready...?"
Words reached my ears, "Yes," I said.
Their hand gripped mine tightly. With the muffled counting of 1 2 3, we moved our legs over the drop, leaving together.
Wind rushed past our ears, spearing my eyes into releasing tears. I looked at them as the ground rushed closer.
"I love you." I shouted.
They opened their mouth, smiling with me. "I-"

End of the Prologue.
Jisatsu no Tenshi truly begins after their death, no matter how vague it may currently be.
I have looked back on a childhood game of mine, Folklore, and have gained a few ideas from it.

May the Scarecrow lead thy way.
