When you're reading the book, read the italicized parts as Dr. Jensen's thoughts!

This is an edited version of the first chapter 'The First Kill." The other one was short and needed to be edited a little more.

I hope you enjoy!

"What do you mean,'someone bit you on your way here' Beth? That's not just a normal occurrence that happens to any certain person. You barged in here like your life depended on it." I said say.

Beth is both a patient and an assistant here at the Magnolia Center. She comes in for therapy and studies for a job here. Sometimes I give her a job to do and she always gets it done. She's doing great, and I think she'd be a perfect addition to the team. I've worked in the therapeutic field for 11 years, and never once has anything as odd as this happened before.

"I know Dr. Jensen, but I swear that's what happened. I was walking down the sidewalk past an alley way, and a guy leapt out from it and pushed me to the ground. He got on top of me and was trying to push his mouth closer to me. I eventually pushed him off and his mouth did get close to my arm, but I think I was so scared I didn't register the pain. I ran and he chased me for a while, but I got away when I got to your office. I've been so shaken up since it happened." she says.

She didn't look good. Her eyes looked bloodshot and she was super pale. She looked close to fainting and I had no idea how to help her. The phone lines have been out all morning, so I couldn't have called the paramedics. I stood in my office for a few minutes, contemplating what I was hearing, although it was difficult with how hot it was in here.

Christ. Being bitten by a guy off the street? That doesn't make any sense and it's most certainly not normal. The dude had to be on drugs or something like it.

Her arm looks.. infected. She doesn't look good at all. What the hell would I be able to do? I'm not a medic. She should have gone straight to the emergency center. Then again, she was being chased by a drug addict who fucking bit her! I would've gone to the closest place I knew, too.

"When was this again?" I ask. "Uhm, around 20 minutes ago, maybe? I lost track of time after it happened, I was busy running." she said. "Well, I should  take you to the emergency room. Not only does your bite look infected, but you look ter-" Before I could finish my sentence, multiple crashes sounded from down the hall, coming from the waiting room.

"What the hell? Nobody should be in the waiting room. I only had you scheduled for today. Did you see anyone else when you went through there?" I said.

"No, only the receptionist." she said quietly. "Okay, let me go check it out. Stay here and just study your papers." I tell her, opening the door. I look out and towards the room, but I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

I closed the door and started towards the noise. A wave of nausea came over me as I strolled into the waiting room. The whole place was trashed. Magazines and shattered glass littered the floor, the tables were overturned, and papers were strewn everywhere. There was no one around for me to even begin to put together what had happened.

Holy shit. What the fuck happened? There's no one even around.. I should pick this place up before our boss comes in and see's the place.

As I'm trying to pick the tables up, I hear some coughing and gurgling coming from the receptionists room. The door to it was wide open and I wondered if whoever caused this had gone in there. I slowly walked over to the door and peeked inside.

I almost fainted at what I was seeing. Our receptionist, Jen, was laying on the ground with a man sitting beside her. But he wasn't just sitting with her, he was tearing her stomach open and was taking out her insides. I almost threw up but held it in, and instead I gagged. The man's head swerved to see me, and he stood up at a fast pace. He started at me and I panicked. As he got to the door I pushed him back inside and slammed the door shut.
