OUTSIDE THE PRETTYMUCH HOUSE,
yamilexie waited.

she had already
removed her silver
lace front, bobby pins
and all, and put her
naturally curly
ashy brown curls
into a neatly
plaited bun on top of
her head and waited.

she sat down on the
front porch, wearing
brandon's blue rat
life hoodie, some
black basketball
shorts and her
old cheerleading
shoes. her breathing
was hitched and
on edge.

yami was
ready to fight this
weird ass bitch,
who claimed she
was on her way to
the house to
fight her.

twenty minutes had
passed and the silence
between yami
and edwin, austin, nick
and brandon had gotten
louder and louder.
the tension in the
air was thick.
none of the guys
dared say a word to her.

zion hadn't been
with them that day.
yami assumed he
was with the goofy
bitch and was planning
on whooping his
ass just as well as talia's.

another twenty minutes
passed with nothing
but the sound of wind
rustling leaves, birds in
the distance faintly
chirping and the clicking
noises coming from each
of the boys phone.

"mamì, this girl
ain't coming. let's just
go back inside and drop
this shit," nick finally spoke
up, tucking his phone
in his hoodie pocket
and grabbing yamilexie's
clasped reddened fists,
placing gentle pecks on
them both until they
unclasped
and the blood rushed
quickly from them.

"he's right,
kiddo. there's no
point. this girl
ain't pulling up on
no one. at least,
not today," austin
spoke, pulling on
his short dirty
blonde locks.

yami looked
up at the sky.

she often did,
as it reminded her
of her mom, who had
passed just months
before she
started senior year.

yami's mom, marìa
was practically
her best friend.
her other half.

she looked
up as if to consult her
for advice.
for anything.

just as yami
was considering
going back inside,
a jet black
range rover pulled
up downstairs
right outside the front door.
yami's face instantly
hardened into
a smirk
as the back door opened
and a red stiletto
heel stepped out, followed
by legs covered in ripped
jeans and finally
a torso covered with
a red tube top and jet black hair.

yami knew
that straight jet
black hair from anywhere.

it was, as expected,
none other
than
talia olvera.

she stepped out the car,
grabbed her bright
red leather clutch
and slammed the
door behind her.
a smirk covered in
red lipstick
was
plastered on her face
and she gave yami
a fake smile
and smacked
the gum in her mouth
loudly.

out on the other
side of the back
seat stepped
zion, who looked
exhausted.
he was dressed
in a black hoodie,
black sweat
pants and gucci
slides. dark sunglasses
covered his face
as the afternoon
sun shone down on his face.

he walked over
to talia, taking her
pale white hand in his
and walked up towards the
front door of the boys'
shared home, the black
range pulling off in the distance.

the only sound
that could be heard was
the smacking of talia's
gum in her mouth
and the clicking
of her heels on
the dry concrete.

it was enough to drive
yami insane.

in a blind fury,
yami ran up
on talia,
yanking pieces
of her bellami
hair extensions out
and tossing them
into the grass.
she tackled down
talia into the wet grass
and began throwing
jab after jab
towards talia's
face, which was caked in
sweaty foundation.

yami could
hear nothing but silence.
she saw nothing but black as
she continued to kick and
punch and claw at
talia.

zion eventually got
a hold of yami's
torso and pulled her away
into the house.
nick and the other guys
attempted to contain talia and
keep them away from each other.
yami kept screaming incoherent
words and profanities
into the air.

zion hauled her
up to his room, enduring
the biting
and kicking
and punching
and screaming
and all yami's futile
attempts to
escape the boy.

when they finally made it
up to his room, he
slammed her small frame down
into the bed and restrained
her arms against
her chest, gripping her arms.
her knuckles were purple
and bruised and dried
blood adorned her fingers.
her acrylics were cracked and
two were missing. her hair
was sagging in a sloppy bun behind her
head, dirt and leaves caking the ends.
she kept screaming
and screaming and screaming
until the screams turned
into loud sobs.
the sobs turned
into whimpers
and slowly,
the whimpers
became
quiet snores
as the moon set
in and
night fell
silently.
