When I was younger, I quite enjoyed listening to topics based on supernatural things like the occult. There was something very endearing to me about the idea that there was something more out there. Something to make life more exciting. Maybe for me, there was that small fleeting hope also, that I would be able to see faces that had long since been lost. I'd watch ghost hunt shows and read real life account stories online and in the old out of date spirit magazines my aunt used to collect. The idea that ghosts could exist fascinated me.
However, even so, deep down it wasn't as if I truly believed any of the stories I heard or read. Even if I wanted to believe them, in my heart of hearts, I knew that this was just a ploy make the world seem a little more interesting... to prove something to myself...
As of such, it was no surprise that I grew out of this phase, coming to the acceptance that along with the belief of youkai and santa claus, that in turn neither did ghosts exist. Stories sensationalised within media and nervous whispers of mere rumour and make believe spread throughout school halls, were merely there as entertainment for humanity and a consolation that there was a greater place beyond where we were now. Of course ghosts didn't exist and it was something I had long accepted now as a fifteen year old first year in high school.
"Akito! Yo, Akito~"
I paused on my way through the school gates, hearing a familar voice amidst the school chatter and the distant sound of late summer cicada in the surrounding area. My faintly greyish eyes turning to see somebody running and waving frantically in the distance to me, making their way through the crowd of students.
"AK- ITO!"My eyes furrowed faintly as my childhood friend Yuta Takano came flouncing over to me with his usual large and dumb grin plastered on his face.
"Akito, you- you didn't wait by the gate for me again-" he commented whilst catching his breath as he reached me.
"We are in the same class, why do I need to wait for you...?" I responded dully as Yuta placed his hand on his chest in a heartfelt way.
"So cold dude... the way you show love is cold..." he responded as I continued to walk ahead. It was too early in the morning for his idiocy."You know, Yuki probably hasn't walked to her class yet, you could walk up with her..." I then noted as Yuta followed me like a puppy I had just abandoned.
"She's never here in the mornings, I'd be more likely to see a sentai gladiator fight than meet her..." Takano retorted in almost a mopey way as I remained silent. Well I couldn't argue with that, it was true. Though knowing the guy next to me, he actually would wait for a sentai gladiator fight to happen. Yuta then placed his arm over my shoulder quite roughly, almost causing me to trip as he looked at me quite coily. I didn't like where this was going...
"Besides, there is another reason why I remain stubborn that we should walk in school together!" Yuta began as I could only give a dry expression and a half assed sound of intrigue to this-
"Eh-?"
"Because as the most beautiful men in school, it is our duty to the many wonderful girls in this school that we give them a refreshing site to wake them up each morning!!" He boldly declared out loud with his arm spread out, not a hint of him being ironic on that dumb face of his- this is why I choose to walk into school on my own!! I didn't even dignify Yuta's bold declaration with a response as I continued forwards, wondering if there was a way I could turn back time and regain the energy wasted into showing fake interest to whatever my dumb friend was saying. Still the guy followed me, not even questioning his own idiocy himself, which I guess was only to be expected."Hello Takano, Akito~" a girl giggled as she walked past, Yuta doing his usual princely routine as he walked past her.
"Yo, my sweet flower~"
Please
Please stop...That all being said, I couldn't deny that being in Yuta's presence did bring some unwanted attention from the girls at school. Being mixed german and mixed Japanese, with stylish blonde hair only Yuta himself could pull off and fairy green eyes made him a shoo in for best looking dude at the school. It was also something to note that since both his parents were CEO's of different companies, he was also pretty damn rich. As such he had become dubbed prince of Shinimi highschool... then there was me, who could often be found at his side, though I could argue it was the other way round. Akito Yamamoto who otherwise was in my humblest opinion pretty average looking. I was a bit of a rule breaker, hiding my somewhat messy black hair under a beanie hat most the time and a jacket that probably went against the school dress code. Whereas Yuta was a very sparkly and refined looking guy, I opted for a more laid back style, which probably reflected me as a person. Even if I could argue I probably more of a slob than anything, my side by side appearance by Yuta has given me the unnecessary title of prince as well... I really didn't want nor could see why though.
