I think Galmar has had more than a dozen delves into the Barrowmaze. This is me reminiscing and remembering. He is one of three veteran players. He is level 3. The other two are Moonwhisper The Mage (level 3) and Natalia The Acrobat (level 4).
On the first few delves we found little treasure and XP but did some mapping. However, on his third or fourth delve then looted magic armor and a magic shield from a crypt guarded by powerful shades. Galmar took the magic armor but was tempted by the price Mazzahs The Magnificent put on it so sold it and instead bought some plate mail. Maddock kept the shield. They then robbed the crypt of a royal with some braces worth 2800gp and a crown worth 1000gp. Galmar took the crown, Natalia took the bracers, Moonwhisper took the pearl of power. The other including Saym the halfling (level 2 now dead) shared out the gold. Galmar know wears the crown on his head.
When Maddock rotted away Galmar took the magic Snake Shield. In another delve we went down a level and Moonwhisper used a potion to read the mind of a friendly (ish) mutant man. We found out where lots of treasure is. Then next delve Galmar, Blake the cleric, Natalia and a friend of B'loki took the gold of a tomb lid where the treasure was said to be. Other the next few sessions this area would be further explored. It was around this time when the company hired The Broken Wheel lead by Sedric who had the most Hp we'd ever seen from a hireling.
Galmar and Sedric
Galmar soon made friends with the hireling. At the same time Galmar had decided because he had build up some gold he build a wooden house for the guild which Garen the ranger later added a stable to.
Anyway in this part of the dungeon they made a pact to rescue Crab Claw with the Mutant Men Of Orcus. We found a huge stash of treasure, More than we could carry! We found a magic compass that shows you what you desire and a Mithril Chain Shirt. Galmar's favourite place was found! The Chaos Pools! There were three coloured liquids in these pools being filled up by vomiting heads. We took 1 pint of each. We then experimented and mixed them to make a corroding potion. After exploring this section we went back down to the lower levels. We found a lightning wand and book of Barrowmaze monsters. We encountered a gelatinous cube but didn't know until Moonwhisper pointed it out. As a fighter was being sucked in, a cleric sharpshot the potion which smashed it. This caused the cube to fall apart and decay. We then searched the hundreds if not thousands of crypts coming out with gold, a magic dwarven luck stone and more than 20 miscellaneous items like inkwells and jewelry. This was all sold and Galmar took the Luck Stone instead of the 1000gp (ish). Moonwhisper took the Lightning wand. Around this time Galmar made advertisment.
After the success the party picked another door without Galmar. They faced 26 skeletons and nearly a TPK but Moonwhisper and Natalia narrowly escaped. They got nothing but copper and lots of Xp.
Galmar's character sheet began to fall apart :(
This is the replacement sheet.
We went to the main entrance. Someone fell down the hole and died. Then Natalia was swarmed by centepeids and nearly died. We then all went down and were attacked by skeletons. A new character died. Galmar ended up on only 3 hp. Then we went to the pools someone ended up on -2 Hp so we locked him in the Mutant men secret cupboard. We got 3 gallons of chaos potion. This got Galmar the nickname The Mad Alchemist. He created 3 potions of spontaneous combustion, 1 potion of rotting, 1 potion of instant wither, one of slow wither and one of no effect (possibly healing?). We then went back in the main entrance. We went through the damp room and fought some statues. We then got attacked by spiders. They killed another new character. Galmar was told to stand at the back and cover everyone. Everyone ran away. Gamar was abandoned in the dark with three chameleon spiders. Galmar was then saved by fighter who used a torch to lead him to a door which he then shut behind me. Luckily because of his good armour class he didn't lose many hitpoints. Galmar survived based on only iniative and the fighter's kindness.
