Long ago, a boy named Exodus was living with his poor family in the province of Malabon. Their only source of income is his father's fishing together with his mother. They only eat food amounting as much as the crumbs and leftovers of the luxurious persons eating in a restaurant. That time they starved and he was the only son who was left in the family for the rest of his brothers died of different diseases caused by hunger and thirst; hunger and thirst for righteousness' sake. He stopped studying for his willingness to help his parents in working.

One fine night when he was sleeping in their nipa hut, he heard a peculiar voice in his dream. There was a woman crying by the shore. Her clothings were filthy, her body was full of sweat. Her tears keep on running down her cheeks. She cried to him, "Help me, help me please! Go to the forest of Ibalaya and grab that knife that stabs my heart. Go and you will see me, my dear Exodus. Go forth and serve your beloved mother. Oremus." After that, the woman laid down. Exodus tried to approach her but total black clouds which covered the whole sky with darkness came and the woman was gone. Exodus was so afraid. He prayed the Hail Mary and cried. But that was just his dream. Aling Teresa, his mother, was waking him up because he cried aloud and keeps on saying "Mater."
