Ari, Kostya, Niki and Benji sat on Ari's bed. No matter how many times they'd texted Mikolas that day, he'd never seemed to answer, plus he hadn't been seen at school all day long. They all had to come to the unfortunate conclusion of going to Ari's place as just the four of them- Mikolas' absence leaving a constant lurking feeling in each of their hearts that something was missing; the rainy weather outside seeming to lower their mood even more. No matter how much they attempted to ignore it and look on the bright side, it was easy to see that they were incomplete without him. It was horrible. Every time they thought about Miki, they could only think about him being gone, about the rumours, about...him and Ari.
Ari felt it too- you'd think finding out that your crush liked you back would make you happy, but the way it ripped their whole relationship apart made him want to cry. Seeing Mikolas so hurt and ashamed to love him tore his heart into pieces. He felt that maybe if he did cry, he'd feel a little better, but he'd poured his heart out so much that all it made him feel was numb. He'd lost his contagious smile that Mikolas always seemed to trigger. He'd lost his heart-warming giggle that he'd always give him. There was an empty space inside of him that Miki had left behind and all Ari needed at their moment was to look into his soulful eyes one more time. His silent pain left him there, the echo of the rain hitting his empty window being the only sound he could really comprehend.
"Guys, we can't just sit around and pretend we're okay like this!" Benji suddenly sat up, unable to remain quiet and miserable for so long. " We're acting as if it's the end of the world because we're missing someone. Can't we just respect that he's going through a hard time and try to stay positive?!" Everyone looked up, still mostly unmotivated but his minor speech seemed to help. He noticed his very small impact and gave up.
"Oh c'mon!" Niki shouted. The guys were very startled by this- anxious, over-thinking, timid Nikita yelling and motivating them at such a tone was very out of the ordinary for him."I can't just sit here and pretend he doesn't exist, and neither can you! Mikolas means the absolute world to us right? He's in need of some space right now huh? I know that if I was in his situation I'd like to be alone too, but I'd still hope deep down in my heart that you guys would think about me- even if I wanted to be invisible. If I felt invisible. We'll think about him, we can't just keep it to ourselves. And what's the best way to commemorate him?" All eyes were on him as they waited for an answer. Benji caught on on the idea and asked "Who wants a game of Truth Or Dare?" Smiles began to light up the room. It was true, whenever the words 'truth or dare' were uttered, everyone thought of Mikolas. It was his signature game- something they'd do every time they happened to be together. It brought up so many great memories for each of them.
"Okay," Benji began, "I'll start! Ari, Truth Or D-" There was a sudden knock at the door, interrupting Benji. Who could be standing outside Ari's house in this weather?
"Ugh, I'll get it. Don't worry, I won't be longer than a minute, probably just the mailman." As he walked out of the room- shutting the door behind him, Kostya curiously walked to the window, peering out to see who was knocking at the door. Through the heavy rain and thick fog, he saw a figure- a figure he began to recognise. He smiled, wider than he ever had before. "Guys!" He called over the other two, gesturing them to come over to the fogged up window, "Come take a look at this..."Ari slowly opened up the front door, his eyes starting to adjust to the grey fog outside. "Can I help y-" he gasped, almost jumping out of his skin upon seeing the mysterious visitor. Mikolas.
Despite the dread of facing him after the rumours, he couldn't help but to give him a long awaited loving smile.
"Hey Ari..." His confidence quickly faded. Despite having rehearsed the entire conversation in his head on the way there, Miki's mind had began to scatter upon locking with Ari's breath-taking eyes. "I uh had to um just say something uh quickly." Water dripped from the tips of his sopping wet hair as he stumbled over his words.
"Do you want to come in?"
"Uh no I'm uh fine. I promise this won't take long." He ran his fingers through his cold, damp hair before taking a deep breath."Look, I know you've heard about... the outburst..." He looked down at the floor, Ari flushing scarlet but forcing a reassuring smile. "But I just wanted to say that I've liked you almost since we first became friends. I just didn't know it. I denied it and I pushed those feelings back without even knowing what I was doing. That was until I found out how you felt." Ari looked into his pain-filled eyes. He could see that admitting his love hurt him but he knew he had to do it. "I'm sorry for hurting you when I found the book, I just had no idea how to react when I felt my heart beating at the thought of you loving me. That's when I realised... I love you, Ari."
Ari walked towards him, ignoring the rain caressing his face as he did so. An adoring glimmer shone in his eyes when he looked up at Miki.
"Miki, you have no idea how much that... means to me. I-I love you too." Mikolas began to sweetly laugh, finally happy for the first time in almost an entire week. Ari pulled him into a tight hug, tears of happiness welling up in his eyes. The boys watched from the window, in absolute awe of what was happening; but there was no doubt that each and every one of them were ecstatic at the sight of them. They held each other for a few moments longer before Ari slowly began to pull away, because of this he totally wasn't expecting Mikolas to grasp the collar of his hoodie and pull him towards his lips. They were kissing. Really kissing. Ari's eyes were wide in excitement and shock at first, but slowly closed; enjoying every moment of their passionate kiss. Benji could be heard squealing from the upstairs window while Kostya giggled, wide-eyed in disbelief and Niki almost fainted. As they pulled away, Ari smirked at the sight of Mikolas' face, heavily blushing at him. They were both utterly astounded by what had just happened, so much so that they no longer seemed to care that the rain had soaked them through. It was like a fairy tale, a dream come true- like their troubles had been thrown into the fog, never to be seen again as they stared into each others eyes; like windows to their souls. They were in love with each other, unconditionally in love with each other. No matter what was thrown in their way during their discoveries of this undying love, they somehow made it through. Together.
