ive been doing this band thing for 3 years officially, 6 years all together. the members of the band are noah, jack, george and myself, y/n. we met through our mums. you see, they all work together and through little parties all around the year, and we get dragged to a lot of them.
7 years ago, i was sat on a deck chair in georges mums garden bored out my mind simply scrolling through games on my DS. i mean, what can a 10 year old actually do at a party full of adults.
george, who was 14 at the time, came over to chat with me. after an awkward introduction- id never spoken to a 'cute' boy before this so i was more starstuck than anything thing - we started to just chat about anything and everything. i found out that he had chosen music as one of his gcses, he could sing and drum, also skateboard (which was amazing) and so much more. at the time george was a lanky, 5ft 11" healthy boy. he had a lazy brown quiff and was dressed in blue jeans and a white top (something you'd never see him in now).
my mum and george's mum came over with these boys, "nice to see you guys have gotten on" Lyn said pleasantly.
"yeah, she's actually pretty chill" george smiled
"same for him" i smiled back
"these boys are bored so we thought we'd give them some friends to talk to, thats noah" my mum spoke, pointing at the young boy in a pair of black jeans and a jumper, he had a true baby face and him too brown haired but in a fringed style. later i found out he was 13, also could do music - bass and guitar for exact. it also came to my knowledge that he used to do theatre so singing was something he was objectively good at. " and this is jack" she tapped his shoulder, jack (too 13 years old) was dressed in joggers and his football jersey for his club. his body type definitely showed he liked sports. after getting to know him i found out he likes to play piano to help focus his mind for his sports.
and there it was. the squad was born. the first year of knowing each other was full of us going to our parents parties, going to jacks football games and the boys teaching me their instruments. luckily, i played guitar for fun already so i wasnt as musically inclined as they thought.
through our second year of friendship, the boys wanted to start a band - i was obviously scared of this. we decided to stick to mainly covers of songs that were on the radio at that time. we wrote a few originals. the band stayed unnamed for a while, we never found anything that stuck. so all our social media @'s were @theunnamedband.
while, for the boys, everyone knew about the band, for me, nobody but my close mates and my family knew. i was horrified of being exploited because of the small following we had, and that i didnt want to bullied.
the boys thought it'd be a great idea to teach me to sing - apparently 'having a female voice within a bunch of boys will make us blow up' good idea jack. since they could all sing, weird i know, they all would teach me at least 5 times a week - we saw each other way too much.
pretty much of 2-3 years of learning the basics and still being taught now, i knew how to sing (parenthesis on knew).
the name 'the unnamed' ended up sticking as our offical name. quirky and confusing but can you do.
when we started to take it all seriously we moved from sound cloud and focused ourselves to spotify.
obviously people around began to find out and by the time sixthform rolled around, nearly everyone knew. and almost everyone was so supportive, my school friends would come to gigs, show support at school - it was all around lovely.
when the start of my last year in secondary began, we blew up minimally from one of our songs being used on fan edits. because of this, a man by the twitter @ of graysondolan sent us a little DM to ask whether he could use a song in his video. which we said yes to. after the odd joke and slight small talk, permission was granted.
graysons cheeky chatting never stopped there, he followed all our personal twitters and hit up my dms (as i was the one who responded to the first message/ conversation).
over a year later, thousands of facetimes, countless cheeky insta comments later and id gladly say grayson and ethan were some of my favourite people in my life.
though our time zone differences hindered our time to talk, it never touched the quality. we'd talk and text for hours on end about the most stupid to the most important of stuff. from how i shouldnt be texting in my classes to late night lowkey flirting (though that only happened with gray).
we've met in person previously when they surprise visited during the release of our first official EP. my boys -jack, noah and george- all knew about it.
that week was the best one! the moment they jumped out at me outside the little bar we were playing in, making me weep like a little baby, i knew itd be action packed. we did tours and photoshoots across London, went to different zoos, saw little gigs and just made memories of a life time.
that trip, looking back, was full of flirting on gray and i's behalf. after countless early morning text conversations about deep 'n' meaningful stuff, getting to know each other's fears, insecurities and (strangely enough) turn ons and turn off, the odd jokey-flirty conversation, what can you expect. there were loads of hand holding (due to my fear of heavy crowds and getting lost), lots of cuddling (London is cold and gray loves contact) and lots of inside jokes. but no kissing, nor sex!
