"She's so talented.."
"That girl is levels above us.."
"It's like she's superior!"
I stood. This is it. Here I was, standing in front of the prestigious 'Hope's Peak Academy'. While I wasn't excited, I couldn't help but wonder what it'd be like in this school. What kind of people would I meet? This school known as Hope's Peak Academy happens to have special approval and rights from the government themselves. I know for a fact that the school gathers high school students nationally who are top in their respective fields. Then they prepare them to 'lead the world into the future - to bear the hopes of all humanity'.
"Do you think she'd come to my party if I invited her?"
"Shh! Not so loud!"
"I bet she wouldn't even consider it. Besides, I'm pretty sure she's got a lot of rehearslng to d0 anywa_s, d_d yo_ h__r ab___ h---"
When I overhear people talking about this academy, I'm always hearing this specific phrase: "Graduating from this school leads to a certain success in life."
According to my parents, many of the top students in every kind of field and profession are graduates of Hope's Peak. It sounds like a stretch, but it very much explains why I'm standing here right now. People now like to refer to this place as 'The Academy of Hope' because of this extraordinary reputation.
"Excellent work Ayumi. This is exactly what I should be expecting from you."
"Well done, keep it up and we'll be making a fortune."
I happen to be one of the students chosen to enroll in Hope's Peak Academy as a freshman. The perk of my talent, I guess. Of course, when I was invited, I had no say in the matter than to go, but... that was fine with me. It was probably the best choice anyway.
"When I grow up big sis, I wanna be just like you!"
After all, what path would be better than the path of success, right?
And who knows... this might just be the place...
"Trust me, you'd be better off not trying."
'I feel.. weird all of a sudden..' the moment I even dared to lay a foot inside the grounds, my sight began to fail me. My vision started fading, fading, fading...
Until it was all pitch black.
I don't even know what happened just now, but I could suddenly see again after only mere seconds of fading out. And for some reason, there was a door in front of me and nothing else.
"How the hell did I get here? And why the heck is it so dark?" I asked nobody in particular, scratching my head before approaching the door. "Something's sketchy about this school, I just don't know what."
I shoved the thought into the back of my head for now, as I slowly opened the door for my own suspenseful effect. "Now, I wonder what's beyond this door..."
I had a chance to go back...
If I knew what would happen...
If I knew about what I'd be getting into...
I'd have probably no doubt turning my head the other way before it was too late.
