"hey look what I found, Jinyoung!"
"what is that? Whoa it's so pretty"
"my mom said it's a house"
"a house?"
"yes, it's an animal's house. I forgot what it is called hehehe"
"what are you gonna do with it?"
"here. I will give it to you. I have two. One for you one for me!"
"thank you Jaebeom!"
"you're welcome, my friend!"
Jinyoung sat down next to his bedroom window, looking at the tiny white-yellow-ish shell on his palm. He vividly remembered the kid who gave him the beautiful white shell; his friend Jaebeom.
It's been a long time. Where is he now?
The kid who was so bright, the kid who talked a lot, and the first same-age friend he got. The beach vacation with his parents thirteen years ago brought him a new friend.
Jinyoung and his sisters were home-schooled because of how busy his parents were. Even though his parents were super busy, Jinyoung and his sisters were never neglected. They would always make sure that Saturday and/or Monday would be their family day. And Jinyoung would use these opportunities to ask them to go to a beach.
Jinyoung who always liked this particular since he was a toddler, liked it even more especially after he met his new friend Jaebeom. Jaebeom lived near the beach so, every time they had their family day, Jinyoung would ask his parents and sisters to go there. Jinyoung's parents who also became friends with Jaebeom's would always notify them that their son wanted to meet and play with Jaebeom. Therefore, the beach had become the two family's 'basecamp'.
Until two years later when Jinyoung's family moved out to Indonesia for their father's business, he got separated with Jaebeom, and his beach. Sure Indonesia has beautiful beaches but not one had the same memory as that one he called his and Jaebeom's. He was 8 when they moved out. Jinyoung was 8 when he got into a public school, in a new country, and new environment. Not to mention new friends.
Now that he's 19 and back in Korea, he truly thought he lost his childhood best friend since he lost all sort of contacts with him.
Putting back the precious gift from Jaebeom back to his small wooden box, Jinyoung then grabbed his black backpack to get ready to go to his first day of college after a long summer break. It's his second year in this University. It's not too big but he loves it here especially the cafeteria food and that one fried chicken house across the front gate. It also has a small park for him to just sit down and enjoy the breeze, since it is also located on a small hill. That's why Jinyoung hated it when he's late. He would have to hike through the sidewalk to his classroom uphill. It was not too steep but enough to make their legs sore.
Jinyoung took a bus and as soon as he reached the front gate he could hear his friend Jackson calling. Jackson was a Chinese born in Hong Kong. He studied there because he got a scholarship to finish his study in this university from the original college he enrolled in back in Taiwan. It was a bit complicated if he had to explain to people about where he came from. He lived in Taiwan, but he's Chinese born in Hong Kong and now he's an Insa-dong citizen with his aunt.
"Hey Jinyoung wait for me" he panted as he reached out his hand to Jinyoung.
"You didn't have to run you know" Jinyoung giggled.
"If I didn't run you'll leave me. Let's go"
The two friends walked together along with other students uphill to where their classroom buildings were at.
