"Almeira, where have you been?! We've been worried sick! You know we dont like you being out in the rain!" My mother said in a panicked voice.

She glanced down at Jhalo who had hidden around my feet and her eyes widened.

"Jhalo!" She said in disbelief. I winced.

"Hello Cähltïe." He said in a tiny voice with his head down.

My mother's eyes turned from shock to fear and finally, to anger as she turned her gaze back on me.

"Almeria, come." She said in a hard voice.

I bit my tongue and followed my parents through the tunnel with hanging moss covering the entrence t was opposite of the first one. It opened out into my parent's warm, den like cave and I automatically shivered at the sudden warmth that heated up my wet and cold scales.

Neither of my parents said anything, just stared at me with disapproving eyes. I looked around at the smooth, round, stone walls that formed the small cave, pinning my eyes on anything but my parents strict faces.

"Almeira." My father's strong voice filled my ears as I began to shuffle my feet around, tension thick in the air.

"Yeah." I answered, not taking my eyes off my claws, pretending they were more important.

I heard him growl and I held back a flinch. I forced my eyes up to watch my mother trying to calm my father who's eyes had turned dark with anger as I kept my head lowered. Well, this was not turning out to be a good day.

"Almeria, you cant just go out, in the rain I might add, with a baby dragon! You know your responsibilities! You must ALWAYS look out for the pa-"

I cut my mother off.

"Always look out for the and always make sure your there and the others come first and make wise decisions and blah blah blah." I mumbled through clenched teeth.

"And never mumble! Cähltïes do not mumble!" My mother said in a flabbergasted voice.

I mentally rolled my eyes. I was tired of all these rules! I was tired of being treated so low by my parents yet so high by everyone else! I was tired of never having a life! All I wanted was some freedom every here and there! Was that too much to ask for?!

My mother sighed, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"You need to understand that now your growing up and, you need to start taking-"

"Growing up?! Start taking responsibility? Im only 2000 years old for Stars sake!" I shouted, my scales heating up with fury.

In case your wondering, Stars is practically the 'God/Goddess' that dragons worshipped.

"Yes which is like 17 in human years! Your old enough for this. In fact, you've been old enough since the day you turned 41!" My father said loudly.

He took a deep breath and said, "This time of responsibility and leadership is long overdue."

I flared my nostrils at them. No way was I backing down so easily. I couldn't help the thin growl that escaped my throat and my scales bristled. I scowled at the shocked look my mother had on her face and the hard stare my father was throwing at me.

I whipped around and ran out of the room before they could summon up another argument. I went to the cave and went to the other large tunnel, deciding to sleep with the other dragons tonight. It was too cold to sleep out in the main cave.

I sighed through my nose and closed my eyes, welcoming the darkness that engulfed me.
