It had been a week and 3 days but who's counting. And it had been 4 days since Hiram's daughter dropped a bomb shell on me. I understood Hiram had mystery to him. I understood that he was a mafia boss. But a father? If he had a daughter then where was her mother? Was she still in the picture? I don't know why this bothered me. Not the fact that he has a daughter but the fact that he probably has a whole secret life I know nothing about. And the worse part about it? I'm staying on his villa. I signed a contract. I am working for this man whom I know nothing about. As I sat took a sip of my coffee, my thoughts are interrupted by a hard knock on the door. I looked out the kitchen window to see Hiram waving at me. It's not like I could tell him not to come in. It's his place. His villa.
Wheb he entered the kitchen, his skin glistened. He was in a regular fitted t shirt and long sweat pants. He had his earphones on until he took them both off. "Good morning..." he greeted me.
I nodded. "Morning. Sleep well?" He gave me a worried look as catches his breath.
"Nope."
I set my coffee cup down and sighed. "That makes two us..." I reached into the cabinet above the sink to get a cup and I poured him some coffee. He nodded as I walked over to him to hand him the ceramic cup.
He takes a big sip. "Has the work at the office been okay? No...troubles?"
I thought about it. Yeah, it was a lot of load. But nothing I couldn't handle. Answering phones, taking messages, faxing. Also making lunch orders for the whole building. "Nah, no trouble at all..."
Hiram nodded as he continued to sip his coffee. I couldn't help but stare at him. Should I ask him how things went with this daughter? I mean, it wasn't any of my business. I was jusy concerned. She seemed to have caught him off guard.
"Well, I've decided to give you the day off. Maybe you could go to the mall or check your friend. The loud girl who came to my office..." he was talking about Biannca. She was still here. I didn't really feel like going there the past days. Mainly because of work and the whole Hiram father thing.
"I should check on her. Check how long she's staying and maybe invite her over," When I said that, Hiram tapped his fingers on the counter, narrowing his gaze to the ground. "Or not..."
Hiram cracked his knuckles and smiled. "I'm just not so sure she should step on the villa. I don't know her. Might not know what she's capable of."
I couldn't help but laugh at his statement. "Yeah, she's totally capable of maxing out her cards and shooting us with her lip liner..." Hiram gave me a confused looked then his expression became serious.
"I don't joke when it comes to safety, Cassie."
I stared at him. "She's my best friend, Hiram. She isn't a threat. I promise you that..." I didn't think this wpuld be a problem but Hiram apparently did. I mean he doesn't really know me and yet here I am. Here we are. Practically strangers drinking coffee together in my own place. That he gave me.
Hiram walked behind me and put his hands on my waist. He then kissed my forehead. "I just want you to be safe, amore." Why? Why was he so concerned with keeping me safe? Why is he calling me amore?
I take a deep breath and move away. I then looked at him and sighed. "If Bee can't come over to the villa then I'm going to spend the night with her." He looked confused. He almost looked sad, maybe that I had moved away. And like he is, his expression changed once again.
"You know what? Do whatever it is you wish." He took his earphones and headed for the door. I felt sad for some reason. He was just trying to lool out for me. But I didn't like being controlled. Not again.
